Lady Rabbs claim bi-district crown

Atlanta’s softball team picked up where it left off; by winning another championship this past weekend.

Just a little over a week since its undefeated district title, the Lady Rabbs claimed the bi-district championship after dismantling Winnsboro in a 3-game playoff series last weekend.

Of course the series never reached three games because Atlanta outscored the Lady Raiders 29-8.

Atlanta 17, Winnsboro 5

The first game was played in Atlanta on Apr. 29. a game the Lady Rabbits won, 17-5.

In that contest the Lady Rabbs struck first after plating two runs in the first frame.

Winnsboro tied it up at, 2-2, in the third but Atlanta boasted a, 3-2, lead going into the fourth inning.

The Lady Raiders took a short, 5-3, lead into the bottom half of the fourth frame but a 7-run explosion by Atlanta rattled the scoreboard to read, 10-5.

Atlanta tacked on seven more runs in the sixth for good measure.

Jordan Hodge scattered nine hits over six innings with four strikeouts.

Freshman slugger Victoria Clayton added another homerun to her credit as she finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs, Sydni Davis also hit a homer and ended the con test 3-for-4 with three RBIs, Callie Dyer was 2-for4 with a double and four ribbies, Valerie Mason was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, Hodge added a couple of hits with an RBI, Madeline Clayton had two hits with a ribeye, Jade Albertson hit an RBI single and Cara Taylor added a hit.

Atlanta 12, Winnsboro 3

The first and second innings were as close as it got for these two squads as Atlanta finished off the series with a 12-3, win May 1.

Atlanta had a, 3-2, lead going into the third stanza but the Lady Rabbs outscored the Lady Raiders, 9-1, over the next five innings to complete the victory.

Jordan Hodge gave up only three hits in the game with six Ks.

Victoria Clayton smacked her 10th homerun on the season and brought in three RBIs, Hodge hit two doubles and brought in four runs, Cara Taylor was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a double, Sydni Davis was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Jade Albertson was 4-for-5, Callie Dyer added a couple of singles, Madeline Clayton had an RBI single and Hannah Wall collected a hit.

The Lady Rabbs will no meet up with White Oak in area action.

Game one will be at 6 p.m. Friday, May 7, at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall.

Game two will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at Marshal High School with game three to follow if necessary.
