Lady Rabbit milers go the distance
Last week I inadvertently left out the long distance runners’ stats for the Lady Runnin’ Rabbs who totaled 41 points combined at the District 14-3A track meet.
Without the solid effort of these ladies Atlanta would have had trouble winning district.
Take away the 41 points and they tie with Pewitt for third place.
To see how big the feat actually was Pewitt received no points in the 800m, 1600m or 3200m, Queen City, who finished third with 99 points, only tallied six points in those three events and second place Redwater only earned 26 points in those three races combined.
One point or run can be the deciding factor in whether your team loses or wins, but in this case it was 41 points that helped decide a district championship.
In the 800m run Kaylon Partain finished second with a time of 2:34.07, AnnMarie Hanner placed fifth with a time of 2:45.19 and Rylie Patillo placed sixth at 2:46.05.
In the 1600m run Aurelia Giesler placed third at 6:08.24 and Kendall Fant placed fourth at 6:13.43, and in the 3200m run Keri Fomby crossed the finish line at 13:08.23 for a first place finish, Giesler placed second at 13:34.46 and Fant placed fifth at 14:09.63.
Hanner, Patillo and Partain have been devoted to excellence in the 800m. Partain qualified for area and regionals in that event.
Giesler, Fomby and Fant have been stalwarts in the 1600m and 3200m this year for the Lady Rabbs. All three qualified for area and Giesler advanced to regionals in both races.
I apologize for the error made in writing the track article and want to say congrats to the ladies for their perseverance and diligent dedication.
