L-K nets big win over Beckville
Linden-Kildare got a big win over the weekend over the Beckville Bearcats. “Coming off our loss to Timpson in which we did not complete a pass, it was important for us to establish a passing game early, and we were able to do that. As a matter of fact all of our TD’s Friday night were TD passes,” said Coach Simmons. Mason Williams passed for 154 yards and four touchdowns which put that exclamation point on this one.
Simmons believes having the lead at halftime was big for them. “We had not held a halftime lead for several weeks now. We knew coming out for the 2nd half that if we won that half we would win the game and we did just that.”
For the Tigers this was really a must-win game. “It was a big win for several reasons, mainly for the fact that it kept us in the playoff chase. It was also huge for our SR’s to get a win in their last home game at Jack Hetherington Stadium,” said Simmons.
Simmons believes this coming week will be a huge challenge. “We have Tenaha there this week and we know that a win plus a Timpson loss will put us into the state playoffs, so there is a lot on the line for us this week. Tenaha will be the most athletic team we have faced all year but I think our guys will be up to the challenge.”
On a huge note this week, “LaDavion Johnson did break the career rushing record at Linden-Kildare, topping Shock Linwood from several years ago. So proud for him and what he has meant to this program for the past four years,” said Simmons. This week LaDavion Johnson rushed for 119 yards on 23 carries including a two-point conversion.
The dagger to the heart of the Bearcats probably came on the strike in the 4th quarter to Schuler, helping the Tigers come from behind to take a 24-21 over Beckville.
While the Tigers spent most of the time in the air, Beckville, fought with their rushing attack which included Mile Morrison’s 240 yards, and Ryan Harris’ 172 yards and three touchdowns.
