JV Bulldogs beat Eagles, 22-14
The Queen City Junior Varsity responded from a one-sided loss last week by defeating the Como-Pickton Eagles 22-14. The win raised the Bulldogs record to 2-1 for the season.
The Eagles opened the scoring after a six-play drive, taking a 6-0 lead after a failed two pt conversion with 5:48 left in the first quarter. The Bulldogs responded to the Eagles with a scoring drive of their own. The Bulldogs scored on a Payden Glass to Derell Sewell 8 yd scoring strike.
Glass connected with Chris Brown on a two pt conversion, giving the Bulldogs an 8-6 lead with 1:35 left in the first quarter. Neither team could score in the second quarter, leaving the score 8-6 at the half.
The Eagles opened the second half with a recovery of an onside kick. The momentum was short-lived as Trenton Belk intercepted an Eagle pass and returned it 54 yds for a touchdown. The Bulldogs converted the two pt conversion, extending their lead to 16-6 with 9:49 left in the third quarter.
After this touchdown, neither team was able to score until the fourth quarter when the Bulldogs converted on an 11-play drive which culminated on a 24 yd scoring strike from Glass to Belk with 9:55 left in the game. The Eagles then drove 67 yds to paydirt scoring after a 14-play drive on a 1-yard run with 0:22 left in the game. The Bulldogs ran out the final seconds to secure the win.
This week, the Bulldogs travel to Harleton to take on the Wildcats.
