Football Preview Week 4
Atlanta vs. Mt. Vernon
Atlanta and Mount Vernon collide this Friday night at Atlanta Rabbit Stadium. The Rabbs celebrate Homecoming and the Atlanta Education Foundation hosts its annual ceremony as well.
These two teams have been battling one another since 1921 mainly due to being in the same district or meeting in the playoffs.
Although the teams first met up 103 years ago, they have only played one another 29 times.
The Rabbits hold a 16-13 series lead. From 1968 to 2002 the teams didn’t play each other at all and as of the turn of the century they have only battled it out 10 times. Of those times the Tigers have only won twice.
Up until Mount Vernon won in 2019, the Rabbs had won five in a row including a solid win in district play in a deluge and again in the third round of the state playoffs in the same season.
The two teams had not played since 2019 but met last year as the Rabbs won handily 60-17. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Linden-Kildare vs. Tenaha
Linden-Kildare hosts Tenaha this week on a Thursday night. This will be the fifth meeting all-time between the two schools and Tenaha leads the series 3-2 after Tenaha won last year.
L-K won the first two games of the series back in 2006 and 2007, and Tenaha won the last two games back in the 2018 and 2019 seasons when the two teams were in the same district. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Queen City at White Oak
Queen City travels to White Oak this Friday night. These two teams have played each other nine times since 1968 with White Oak holding a 6-3 edge in the series.
The teams had not played one another since 1999 until last year. White Oak edged QC 35-34 to win that contest. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
