Queen City’s softball squad, fresh off a Bi-District championship, battled White Oak last week for the Area crown.
White Oak edged out a solid Hughes Springs’ team for first place in district and won a Bi-District championship by beating Elysian Fields in three games.
The Lady Bulldogs outscored Mineola 35-2 in its first playoff series and coming into the Area clash Qc had outscored its last five opponents 78-9.
The games were close, but QC left no doubt as they swept White Oak with scores of 3-0, 5-1.
Game One
This game was a pitcher’s duel, but the Lady Bulldogs broke through and plated three runs in the contest for a 3-0 victory.
QC scored all of its runs in the first two innings. Both Brenna Turbeville and Serenity Oden reached base to begin the inning.
Trinity Oden walked and so did Mallori Stringer which brought in the first run. Laurel Moore hit an infield single which plated Serenity and set the score at 2-0.
Turbeville reached base again in the second inning and later scored the final run of the game on a hardhit double by Trinity Oden.
Trinty scattered three hits over even innings with 10 strikeouts from the circle and had an RBI double from the plate.
Serenity hit a double, Laurel Moore hit an RBI single, Lauren Carrell hit a single and Stringer earned an RBI.
Game Two
This game wasn’t decided until late in the contest when the Lady Bulldogs plated five runs in the fifth and ended up winning the game, and series, with a 5-1 victory over the Lady Roughnecks.
In that fifth frame, Kelsey Nash started things off with a free pass to first base after being plunked by a pitch.
Lauren Carrell laid down a solid bunt and ended up making it to first base safely. Both runners moved up a bag after a passed ball.
Jacey Cauthorn hit a single which brought in Nash. An error by White Oak’s catcher plated Carrell and allowed Cauthorn to get to second base.
Erica Lavoie walked before Brenna Turbeville singled in Cauthorn and put QC up 3-0. Serenity Oden brought in Lavoie on a sac fly which made the score 4-0 at that point.
Mallori Stringer hit a single which plated Turbeville and the score was 5-0 going into the sixth inning where White Oak scored its only run.
Trinty scattered six hits over seven innings of work with six strikeouts. Turbeville hit an RBI single, Serenity Oden added an RBI, Stringer hit an RBI single, Carrell hit a single and Cauthorn had two hits with a double and two ribbies.
The Lady Bulldogs will take on Troup in the Regional Quarterfinal round of the state playoffs beginning at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 11 at East Texas Baptist University (ETBU).
Game two will take place at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 12, at ETBU and game three, if necessary, will take place at 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, at Marshall High School.
