Bulldogs suffer loss to Waskom Wildcats

The Queen City Bulldogs traveled to Waskom to face the Wildcats last Friday night. The Bulldogs fell to Ore City in the previous week and Waskom lost to Daingerfield. Queen City began the game on offense and fumbled the ball on the second play of the drive. Waskom took over deep in Queen City territory and scored on a three-yard quarterback keeper. With 9:17 remaining in the first quarter, the Wildcats led 6-0. Queen City’s next drive resulted in an interception and Waskom capitalized with another touchdown, this time from two yards out. The two-point conversion was successful and Waskom led by 14 points. On the next kickoff, Waskom kept its momentum by recovering an onside kick and scoring a 44-yard touchdown on the third play from scrimmage. Waskom extended its lead to 22-0 at the end of the first quarter. Queen City was forced to punt on its next drive and were able to pin Waskom deep in its own territory. The Wildcats began the offensive series from their own 9-yard line and were eventually forced to fumble the ball after a long drive. Jeremiah Drayton recovered the ball for the Bulldogs on the Queen City 24-yard line. Queen City was forced to punt, however and the Wildcats responded with their fourth touchdown of the game before halftime. The Wildcats opened the second half with a 54-yard kick return for a touchdown to stretch their lead to 36-0. On the next Bulldog offensive series, Dylan Scott punted the ball 59 yards to the Waskom one-yard line. On the first play of the Wildcats’ drive, Aaron Jones tackled the Waskom ball carrier in the end zone for a Queen City safety. The teams traded possessions for the remainder of the second half and Waskom would go on to score another touchdown early in the fourth quarter. This would be the final points of the night for either team as the game ended with the final score of Queen City 2 and Waskom 44. The Bulldogs are back at home this week as they face the Pewitt Brahmas. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Smith-Wall Stadium.
