McLeod sweeps Union Grove

Longhorns

McLeod’s varsity boys’ team beat Union Grove 4741 on Feb. 7. The contest was close throughout with Union Grove holding on to a slim 20-19 lead at halftime.

The Longhorns (23-9, 8-3) outscored the Lions 28-22 in the second half which netted McLeod a big win.

Kannon Dempsey and Grayson Owens each scored 10 points, Jaxon Smith added eight, Henry Teer had seven, Brennan Penny six and Jase Deaton six.

The JV team won 36-21 behind Tristen Kennedy’s 13 points and Kasen Cook’s 10 points.

Lady Longhorns

The girls’ game was a low-scoring affair with Mc-Leod (20-14, 10-2) coming out on top 24-14.

Reagan Mitchell scored 12 points, Kenslee Cross added eight, Jaci Armstrong had two points and Reagan Johnson had two points.

The JV team squeaked out a 27-25 win to complete the sweep of Union Grove. Jacquelyn Shepherd scored 11 points for McLeod.

Longhorns thrash Harleton

McLeod faced off against Harleton on Feb. 14, but didn’t give the Wildcats the Valentine’s present they wanted as the Longhorns (24-9, 9-3) thumped the Wildcats 54-19 in district play.

McLeod had a 19-10 at the break then went off in the second half on a 35-9 run.

Grayson Owens posted 13 points, Brennan Penny poured in 12 points, Kannon Dempsey added 11, Henry Teer had four, Parker Patrick four, Jay Greene three, Austin McGray three, Jaxon Smith two and Jase Deaton two.

The JV team topped Harleton 33-8 with Tristen Kennedy scoring 13 points.
