Bloomburg
Bloomburg’s varsity girls’ basketball team has been on a roll since December began.
The Lady Wildcats won the McLeod Tournament which took place from Dec. 1-3.
Bloomburg started out the tourney run with a 6139 dismantling of Cooper, and followed that performance up with a 62-33 thumping of Jefferson.
The Lady ’Cats torched an out of state opponent 56-11, beat Hooks 37-24 and topped host McLeod 35-27 to mark off an amazing 5-0 run and earned championship. On Dec. 6, the Lady Wildcats beat Avinger 40-32. Two days later the team took part in the New Boston tourney.
In the opening game the Lady Wildcats fell to New Boston 48-30 but beat Atlanta 40-37, Clarksville 5221 and Hope 36-21.
With the Avinger contest being a district game the Lady ’Cats are (16-5, 1-0) on the season.
Atlanta
Atlanta’s varsity boys’ basketball team has been knocking down shots and opponents in the process.
On Nov. 29, the Rabbs beat Pleasant Grove 59-52 before taking part in the Redwater tournament.
Atlanta opened up tourney play with a 76-48 win over Gospel Light Christian, drubbed an out of state opponent 88-36, topped Genoa Central 82-49 and edged Dierks 53-51.
After the Rabbs beat Sabine 62-40 on Dec. 6, the team competed in the Mt. Pleasant tourney.
In game one the Rabbits trounced Pittsburg 79-50, in game two Atlanta won 57-52 over Jefferson and in game three the Rabbs topped Mount Vernon 5243 for a slot in the championship game against Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill.
The Rabbs lost to the Red Devils 68-50 but did finish runner-up and Aidan Boston was named to the All-Tournament team.
Atlanta’s varsity girls’ basketball squad beat Hope 52-21 on Nov. 18, then stuffed Waskom 61-32 on Nov. 22. The Lady Rabbs beat out rival Liberty-Eylau 54-43 on Nov. 29, before competing in the Hughes Springs tourney. Atlanta opened up the event by destroying Daingerfield 56-11 and then crushing host Hughes Springs 50-10. The Lady Rabbs lost back-toback games to Gilmer and Bloomburg before topping Hope 45-25 on Dec. 10.
Queen City
Queen City’s varsity girls’ basketball team fell to McLeod in a very close game 36-34 on Nov. 29, edged out Waskom 50-47 on Dec. 2, and beat Hughes Springs 38-19 on Dec. 6.
