Bulldogs

The Queen City varsity boys’ basketball season got underway on Nov. 16, in Morris County with a win over the Daingerfield Tigers by a score of 46-43.

The Bulldogs got off to a slow start, falling behind 7-0 midway through the first quarter, but fought back on the defensive end to take a 9-7 lead. From there, the Bulldogs never trailed again.

The defensive intensity spurred a run during the final minutes of the second quarter as the Bulldogs widened its lead to 27-12 at the half.

The frantic pace continued in the third quarter as both teams got up and down the floor.

The Bulldogs managed to take a 12-point lead into the fourth period. The Tigers wouldn’t lie down as they came out roaring back and even shaved the Bulldogs lead to six points with 2:33 left in the game.

After a Bulldog time out, the Dogs came out and got two big scores which provided enough cushion to seal the victory at 46-43.

QC was paced by 10 points each from Clayton Whittington and Reggie Harrison, Remington Gardner and Manasseh Drayton poured in seven each and Alex Shelton added six. Kaden Fincher and Quiyon Ellison chipped in with three points apiece.

Lady Bulldogs

On Nov. 16, the Lady Bulldogs lost to Jefferson, 47-31, with Jamecia Cook and Alex Larry both putting up seven points.

The JV team won, 28-10, behind Madison Bailey’s 10 points.

Queen City’s varsity girls’ basketball squad competed in the New Diana Tournament last week.

On Nov. 18, the Lady Bulldogs lost to Mount Vernon, 53-35, with Lauren Carrell recording nine points.

Later that day QC topped Harmony, 50-32, with Jamecia Cook pouring in 12 points.

On Nov. 19, the Lady Bulldogs edged Avinger, 41-39, with Nyla Harrison posting 11 points.

On Nov. 20, QC won second in its pool and faced Waskom. The game was tight throughout but Waskom won, 41-38, with Cook scoring eight points, Carrell adding seven points and Serenity Oden posting seven points of her own for the Lady Bulldogs.

In the second game QC faced off against Mount Vernon again and fell, 58-39, with Carrell putting up seven points.

On Nov. 22, the Lady Bulldogs annihilated Avery, 70-11, with Lauren Carrell pouring in 10 points and both Nyla Harrison and Trinity Oden scoring nine points apiece.

Lady Longhorns

On Nov. 16, the Lady Longhorns lost to stateranked Martins Mill.

Stormy Johnson led the way for McLeod with six points, Ella Lambeth added five, Peyton Johnson five, Kenslee Cross three, Jaci Armstrong three and Rielyn Schubert two.

The Lady Longhorns competed in the Union Grove Tournament Nov. 18-19.

In game one, the Lady ’Horns beat Quitman 22-17. The Lady Longhorns had an 11-6 lead at halftime but Quitman went on a 6-1 run in the third to make it 12-12 going into the final frame.

McLeod outscored Quitman 10-5 in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Ella Lambeth led all scorers with eight points and six rebounds, Stormy Johnson had seven points and Peyton Johnson added four points.

In game two, the Lady Longhorns fell to Como-Pickton 30-23. Ella Lambeth had six points, Stormy Johnson added four points with five boards, Peyton Johnson scored three points, Chassie Gryder had three, Regan Johnson three, Rielyn Schubert two and Kenslee Cross two.

In game three, the Lady Longhorns found themselves down 21-17 going into the final quarter but a 12-5 run boosted McLeod to a 29-26 win over Sabine.

Ella Lambeth scored 10 points and had seven rebounds and five steals, Kenslee Cross added eight points, Peyton Johnson had four, Regan Johnson two, Stormy Johnson two, Chassie Gryder two and Rielyn Schubert one.

In game four, the Lady Longhorns were pitted against host Union Grove in the gold bracket championship. This game was close throughout as the teams went

The Lady Longhorns scored the only points in the OT period and went on to win 25-22 and claim the tournament crown.

Ella Lambeth went off for 12 points, six rebounds and six steals, Stormy Johnson added five points, Rielyn Schubert had four points, Peyton Johnson had two points and four boards, Kenslee Cross had a point and Regan Johnson had a point, five rebounds, two steals and three assists.

Longhorns

On Nov. 16, the Longhorns lost to state-ranked Martins Mill for its first loss of the young season.

Braden Parker scored 10 points with seven boards, Mason Teer added nine points, Henry Teer had eight points, and both Kannon Dempsey and Tyler Williams finished with seven points each.

The JV team beat Martins Mill, 37-24, with Trenton McKnight scoring 19 points and Logan McClain scoring 12.

The Longhorns also competed in the Union Grove Tournament Nov. 18-19.

In game one, McLeod had a 27-8 lead at the half and went on to beat Quitman 53-40.

Kannon Dempsey had 16 points with eight boards, Henry Teer scored 10, Tyler Williams added 11, Mason Teer had five points and five boards, Brennan Penny posted six points, Jay Green had three points and Jaxon Smith recorded two points with five rebounds.

In game two, the Longhorns were behind 4A Spring Hill 24-18 at halftime but a 26-9 run by the Panthers in the second half put the game away.

Tyler Williams posted nine points, Mason Teer added eight, Brennan Penny five, Henry Teer two, Preston Bishop two and Parker Patrick one.

In game three, the Longhorns beat All Saints 38-34. Tyler Williams published 14 points, Kannon Dempsey added 12, Brennan Penny five, Jaxon Smith four, Mason Teer two and Henry Teer one.

In game four, McLeod lost to county foe Avinger with Dempsey scoring eight points, Penny five, Williams five and Mason Teer six.

Lady Wildcats

On Nov. 16, the Lady Wildcats battled Fouke.

The game was a slugfest but the Lady Wildcats fell to Fouke 53-48.

Cassie Glasgow poured in 15 points with six boards, Haylee Breedlove added 11 points, Jacee Glasgow had 10 points with four boards and four assists and Kenzie LaDuke had nine points.
