Atlanta sweeps District 14-3A track meet
Atlanta Varsity Boys
The varsity boys’ track program won its 30th district title in 33 years Apr. 7 at the District 14-3A track meet.
Aside from 2010, 2012 and 2020 (due to COVID-19 cancelling all sports) the Runnin’ Rabbs have dominated district meets no matter what class it’s in.
Before the loss in 2010 the program reeled off 22 straight titles.
In the district contest Atlanta racked up 223 points, Redwater was second with 97, Hooks had 79, Queen City 79, DeKalb 56, New Boston 50 and Paul Pewitt 36.
Running Events
In the 100m dash Zackyus Jackson placed first at 11.44 and La’Randion Dowden placed second at 11.47; in the 200m dash Kameron Dickerson placed second at 23.23 and Austin Young placed fifth at 24.02; in the 400m dash Matthew Cauley placed first at 51.61 and Eli Riojas placed sixth at 54.52; in the 110m hurdles Stacy Darty placed first at 16.58 and Kameron George placed sixth at 18.33 and in the 300m hurdles Darty placed first at 41.46 and Zachariah Jefferson placed sixth at 46.03.
Xzavian Johnson and Jaquan Robinson placed 1-2 in the 800m run with times of 2:09.25 and 2:10.12 respectively; in the 1600m run Noah Dowda placed first at 5:02.83 and Jake Carter placed third at 5:17.01 and in the 3200m run Dowda placed first at 11:11.73 and Carter placed fifth at 11:47.07.
Atlanta’s 4x100m relay team of Cauley, Jackson, Dowden and Dickerson placed first at 43.63; the 4x200m relay team of Johnson, Jackson, Dickerson and Young finished fifth at 1:36.31 and the 4x400m relay team of Cauley, Johnson, Darty and Riojas placed first at 3:28.83.
Field Events
In the long jump Kameron Dickerson placed first with a leap of 20 feet, 1 3/4 inches and Stacy Darty placed fifth at 18 feet, 9 1/4 inches; in the triple jump Darty placed first at 42 feet, 5 1/2 inches and Dickerson placed second at 40 feet, 7 1/4 inches; in the high jump Daimion Collins placed second at 6 feet even; in pole vault Hunter Clayton placed first at 13 feet even and Will Porterfield placed sixth at 10 feet, 6 inches; in discus Trey Adams placed third at 117 feet, 9 inches and in shot put Adams placed first at 42 feet, 11 inches and Tyrell King placed second at 42 feet, 8 inches.
Atlanta Varsity Girls
The Lady Runnin’ Rabbs rolled up 131 points en route to a championship.
Redwater placed second with 110 points, Queen City third with 99, Paul Pewitt fourth with 90, DeKalb had 85, New Boston 84 and Hooks 18.
Running Events
In the 100m dash Ja’Daeya Larry placed fourth at 13.53; in the 200m dash Jennifer Easter placed sixth at 28.18; in the 400m dash MaKaylin King placed third at 1:04.41, Kaylon Partain placed fourth at 1:05.48 and Makayla Martin placed sixth at 1:07.66 and in the 300m hurdles Tianna Lawson placed first at 47.24.
The 4x100m relay team of Larry, Savore Chism, Lawson and Easter placed second at 50.69; the 4x200m relay team of McKenzie Martin, Larry, Lawson and Easter placed third at 1:49.42 and the 4x400m relay team of King, Makayla Martin, Kym Sheppard and Partain placed third at 4:25.88.
Field Events
In the long jump Jennifer Easter placed second at 16 feet, 3 1/2 inches and Savore Chism placed fifth at 14 feet, 7 1/2 inches; in the triple jump Easter placed fifth with a mark of 32 feet, 5 inches and Kaylon Partain finished sixth at 31 feet, 8 inches; in the high jump Caitlynn Bailey placed fourth at 4 feet, 10 inches and Tianna Lawson placed sixth at 4 feet, 8 inches and in shot Quenijah Cook placed third at 33 feet, 9 1/2 inches.
Atlanta JV Boys
Atlanta’s junior varsity boys’ track team claimed a district title as it earned 247 points, Queen City placed second with 131, Pewitt had 72, Redwater 67, Hooks 42, New Boston 42 and DeKalb four.
Running Events
In the 100m dash Keith Kinney placed first at 11.73, DK Parker placed second at 11.90 and JaBranden Wells placed fourth at 12.15; in the 200m dash Atlanta finished 1-2-3 as Isaiah Chandler place first at 23.83, Cooper Swanson placed second at 24.35 and DK Parker placed third at 25.14; in the 400m dash Christian Banks placed second at 56.75 and Hudson Hale placed third at 57.08; in the 110m hurdles Markavion Owens placed first at 18.53, Lamdon Liggins placed second at 18.61 and Carmello Henderson placed fourth at 20.34 and in the 300m hurdles Ow ens placed first with a time of 45.61, Liggins placed second at 45.98 and Jalarion Andrews placed fourth at 48.62.
In the 800m run Bryce Allen placed second at 2:22.01 and Hudson hale placed third at 2:23.80; in the 1600m run Chris Swanson placed fifth at 5:48.79 and in the 3200m run Andrew Allen placed sixth at 13:40.78.
The 4x100m relay team of Kinney, Swanson, Isaiah Chandler and Wells placed first at 45.26; the 4x200m relay team of Swanson, Chandler, Wells and Henderson placed first at 1:36.88 and the 4x400m relay team of Daniel Hernandez, Henderson, Justin Pierce and Hale placed first at 3:50.52.

In the long jump Markavion Owens placed second at 18 feet, 6 inches, Daniel Hernandez placed fourth at 16 feet, 9 inches and Dimoree Limbrick placed sixth at 16 feet, 6 1/2 inches; in the triple jump Owens placed fourth at 36 feet, 5 inches and Limbrick placed sixth at 35 feet, 4 inches; in the high jump Limbrick placed first at 5 feet, 4 inches; in pole vault Chris Swanson placed fourth at 8 feet, 6 inches; in discus Michari Banks placed first at 102 feet, 4 inches and Clay Fant placed fourth at 81 feet, 6 inches and in shot DK Parker placed first at 37 feet, 6 inches, Caden Walker was second at 35 feet, 5 inches and Banks placed fifth at 33 feet even.

Queen City’s varsity boys’ team tied for third with Hooks.

In the 200m dash Alijuah Drayton placed first overall with a blazing time of 22.84; in the 400m dash Trent Granberry placed fifth at 54.22; in the 110m hurdles Quiyon Ellison placed fifth at 18.14; in the 300m hurdles Damir Rascoe placed third at 43.69; in the 800m run Joel Upchurch placed third at 2:10.84 and Steven Stone placed fifth at 2:14.24 and in the 3200m run Granberry placed third at 11:42.19 and Nathan Upchurch placed sixth at 11:47.81.
The 4x100m relay team of Alijuah Drayton, Jeremiah Drayton, Kaden Fincher and Spencer Warren placed fourth at 44.73; the 4x200m relay team of the same lineup placed third at 1:34.03 and the 4x400m relay team of Granberry, Nicolas Herring, Joel Upchurch and Warren placed fifth at 3:38.37.

In the triple jump Jeremiah Drayton placed fourth at 39 feet, 8 inches and Quiyon Ellison placed fifth at 39 feet, 1 inch; in shot Cedric Davis placed fourth at 41 feet, 6 inches and in pole vault Spencer Warren placed third at 11 feet, 6 inches and Steven Stone placed fourth at 11 feet, 6 inches.

Queen City’s varsity girls’ track program placed third at district with 99 points.
Running Events
In the 100m dash Nyla Harrison placed third at 13.32; in the 200m dash Ivory Larry placed second at 27.73; in the 400m dash Serenity Oden placed first at 1:03.46; in the 300m hurdles Toni McCellon placed second at 49.11 and in the 800m run Chloe Phillipi placed third at 2:42.90.
The 4x100m relay team of Nyla Harrison, Ivory Larry, Emma Baker and Cassidy Johnson placed fourth at 51.01; the 4x200m relay team of Harrison, Larry, Baker and Oden placed second at 1:48.66 and the 4x400m relay team of Oden, McCellon, Lauren Carrell and Phillipi placed fourth at 4:27.71.
Field Events
In the long jump Ivory Larry placed fourth at 15 feet, 3 inches and Emma Baker placed sixth at 14 feet, 3 1/2 inches; in the triple jump Nyla Harrison placed first at 36 feet, 2 inches and Cassidy Johnson placed fourth at 33 feet, 11 1/2 inches; in the high jump McCellon placed third at 5 feet even, in discus Chyna Stiger placed fifth at 87 feet, 6 inches and in shot Stiger placed fifth at 33 feet, 3/4 inches.
Queen City JV Boys
Queen City’s junior varsity boys’ track program claimed 131 points and a second place finish at the district meet.
Running Events
In the 100m dash Christian Nard placed fifth at 12.17; in the 400m dash Logan Niedens placed first at 55.17; in the 110m hurdles Clint Wooding placed fifth at 21.26 and Lane Eudy placed sixth at 21.66; in the 300m hurdles Eudy placed sixth at 50.31; in the 800m run Kaden Satterfield placed first at 2:19.82; in the 1600m run Luke Moore placed third at 5:43.00 and in the 3200m run Xavier Allison placed third at 13:01.75 and teammate Timothy Brady placed fourth at 13:11.72.
The 4x100m relay team of Delvon Federick, Rylee Green, Christian Nard and Clint Wiley placed second at 47.42; the 4x200m relay team of the same lineup placed second at 1:40.70 and the 4x400m relay team of Federick, Green, Brandon Harwell and Niedens placed second at 3:52.67.
Field Events
In the long jump Rylee Green placed first at 18 feet, 8 inches and Delvon Federick placed third at 17 feet, 6 1/4 inches; in triple jump Clint Wiley placed second at 38 feet, 4 1/2 inches and Federick placed third at 38 feet, 3/4 inches; in the high jump Clint Wooding placed second at 5 feet, 4 inches and in pole vault both Isaac Thomas and Jeremiah Henderson placed fifth with marks of 8 feet even.
The top four finishes move on to the area meet which will take place Wednesday, Apr. 14, in Atlanta.
District 13-3A and District 14-3A will compete against one another with pole vault weigh-ins and competition beginning at 9:30 a.m.
The 3200m run starts at 10:30 a.m., field event warm-ups start at 11, round one field events begin at 11:15, round two field events begin at 12:30 p.m. and a time schedule running finals begin at 2:30 p.m.
