Atlanta Rabbits blank Redwater, 28-0
Atlanta traveled to Redwater last Friday night to take on the Dragons.
The Rabbs defeated Elysian Fields 27-2 in week one and Redwater lost 36-10 to Waskom.
Atlanta scored in each quarter en route to a 28-0 win over the Dragons. The Rabbit defense was once again stout as it still has not given up a touchdown.
First Quarter
Atlanta started the game with possession of the ball but after a nice 7-yard gain by running back Stacy Darty, Redwater forced the Rabbits to turn the ball over a few plays later.
The Dragons didn’t fare well on its first drive either as the Rabbit defense stood tall and eventually forced the Dragons to try a 40-yard field goal attempt.
The kick was no good and the Rabbs had the ball back at the 23-yard line.
From there, Kam Dickerson took the ball 21 yards on the ground, Darty picked up 16 of his own and Markeylin Batton gained 40 yards on the drive with the latter 20 going for a 20-yard touchdown.
Juan Campos nailed the point after and the Rabbs were up 7-0 with 5:02 left in the first frame.
After a quick three-and-out Redwater punted the ball away with 3:12 left on the clock.
Rabbit QB Peyton Harrison connected with Darty on an 8-yard pass play, hit Jayden Riley for three yards on the drive and Dickerson picked up 12 rushing yards but a penalty against Atlanta killed the drive going into the second quarter.
Second Quarter
Redwater took the ball into Rabbit country on its next drive but only to the 41 where the defense broke up a pass play on fourth down.
From the 41, Dickerson picked up 11 yards, Harrison 16 and Batton 30 which added with a 4-yard pass from Harrison to Russell Limbrick put the Rabbs in the redzone.
Harrison later took the ball in on fourth-and-goal from the one and Atlanta was back on the board.
Campos hit the PAT and the Rabbs had a 14-0 lead with 2:58 left in the second quarter.
Redwater put together a nice drive before halftime but big hits by Brenden Clayton and Xavier Nash kept the Dragons from advancing too much further.
Neither team scored again and the halftime score was 14-0.
Third Quarter
If this is any indication of how things went for Redwater, Atlanta’s defense only gave up 32 yards of offense in the second half and a big chunk of that was off of a 31-yard pass play from the Redwater QB to his receiver.
Nice pass breakups by Ike Chandler and Dimoree Limbrick and a huge tackle on the drive by Clayton helped in a big way as Redwater suffered a quick three-and-out to open the second half.
After the punt Atlanta started its next drive from the 44.
On the first play from scrimmage Dickerson took the handoff and bolted 56 yards for a touchdown.
The PAT by Campos made the score 21-0 with 9:30 left in the quarter.
The teams traded possessions the rest of the third stanza.
With a little over a minute left on the clock, Atlanta was marching towards the endzone.
Harrison hit Riley for 31 yards in two pass plays and Dickerson racked up 20 yards on the ground as the Rabbs pulled within 24 yards of the goal line.
Fourth Quarter
Atlanta had open sight on another touchdown but a fumble to open the final quarter gave Redwater the ball back deep in its own territory.
Carmello Henderson and Ja’Marion Owens helped lead the defense in stopping Redwater on its next drive and forcing a punt.
Atlanta’s next drive resulted in another TD as Harrison connected with Riley on a 53-yard pass play.
Campos hit the PAT and Atlanta increased its lead to 28-0 with 6:47 left in the game.
After trading possessions for the rest of the quarter the Rabbs ran out the clock and secured its second win of the season.
The Rabbs host New Boston this Friday night with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m.
Before the game the Atlanta Athletics Hall of Fame will induct three more former standout Atlanta athletes into the coveted hall.
