Atlanta, Queen City compete at area track meet

Both Atlanta and Queen City had track athletes competing in the District 13-3A, 14-3A Area Track Meet Apr. 14, at Atlanta Rabbit Stadium.

Mineola edged out Atlanta for first place by one point in the varsity boys’ division. Mineola finished with 115 points and Atlanta had 114.

Big Sandy-Harmony placed third with 80 points, Winnsboro had 76, Mt. Vernon 56, Hooks 47, Redwater 26, Queen City 23, New Boston 22, Paul Pewitt 21, Quitman 16, Mt. Pleasant Chapel Hill 13, DeKalb nine and Winona two.

In the girls’ division Mineola placed first overall with 111 points, Queen City was second with 97.5 points, Redwater had 66.5, New Boston and Pewitt 60 each, Atlanta 47, Quitman 46, DeKalb 42, Big Sandy-Harmony 37.5, Mt. Vernon 27.5, Winnsboro 23 and Mt.Pleasant Chapel Hill two.

Atlanta Varsity Boys

In the 100m dash Zackyus Jackson placed first at 11.50 and La’Randion Dowden placed third at 11.57; in the 400m dash Matthew Cauley placed third with a time of 51.83; in the 110m hurdles Stacy Darty placed third at 16.45; in the 300m hurdles Darty placed first at 41.10; in the 800m run Xzavian Johnson placed second at 2:04.84 and Jaquan Robinson placed third at 2:05.78; in the 1600m run Jake Carter placed sixth at 5:12.21; in the 3200m run Noah Dowda placed third at 10:53.05 and the 4x400m relay team of Eli Riojas, Johnson, Cauley and Darty placed second at 3:29.73.

In the long jump Kameron Dickerson placed fifth with a leap of 19 feet, 8 3/4 inches; in the triple jump Darty placed first with a mark of 41 feet, 4 inches and Dickerson placed fifth with a mark of 40 feet, 9 1/2 inches; in the high jump Daimion Collins placed second with a jump of 6 feet, 4 inches; in pole vault Hunter Clayton placed first at 13 feet, 6 inches; in shot Trey Adams placed fourth at 42 feet, 3 inches and Tyrell King placed fifth at 42 feet, 1 3/4 inches and in discus Adams placed sixth at 119 feet, 10 inches.

Queen City Varsity Boys

Alijuah Drayton placed third overall in the 200m dash with a time of 23.08; Joel Upchurch placed sixth in the 800m run at 2:12.06; Damir Rascoe placed second in the 300m hurdles at 41.54; the 4x200m relay team of Drayton, Kaden Fincher, Jeremiah Drayton and Spencer Warren placed fifth at 1:35.28; in shot Cedric Davis placed sixth at 41 feet, 4 inches and in pole vault Steven Stone placed fifth at 11 feet and Warren placed sixth with a mark of 10 feet, 6 inches.

Atlanta Varsity Girls

In the 100m dash Ja’Daeya Larry placed fifth at 13.30; in the 300m hurdles Tianna Lawson placed first at 48.35; in the 800m run Kaylon Partain placed third at 2:32.59; in the 1600m run Aurelia Giesler placed fourth at 5:58.90; in the 3200m run Giesler placed third at 13:12.13 and Kendall Fant placed sixth at 14:12.10 and in shot Quenijah Cook placed third with a toss of 35 feet, 9 1/2 inches.

The 4x100m relay team of Larry, Savore Chism, Lawson and Jennifer Easter placed fifth at 51.50; the 4x200m relay team of McKenzie Martin, Larry, Lawson and Easter placed fifth at 1:49.98 and the 4x400m relay team of Partain, MaKaylin King, Makayla Martin and Kym Sheppard placed fifth at 4:28.86.

Queen City Varsity Girls

In the 100m dash Nyla Harrison placed fourth at 13.28; in the 200m dash Ivory Larry placed second with a time of 26.49; in the 400m dash Serenity Oden placed second at 1:04.02; in the 300m hurdles Toni McCellon placed third at 49.79; in the high jump event McCellon placed sixth at 4 feet, 9 inches and in the triple jump Harrison placed first at 36 feet, 2 1/2 inches and Cassidy Johnson placed second at 35 feet, 4 inches.

The 4x100m relay team of Johnson, Emma Baker, Larry and Harrison placed first overall at 50.77; the 4x200m relay team of the same lineup placed second at 1:48.57 and the 4x400m relay team of Lauren Carrell, Chloe Phillipi, McCellon and Oden placed second at 4:23.51.

The top four finishers in each event advanced to regionals.

The regional meet, as of this article, is to be held at Whitehouse ISD with a time and date to be announced.
