Atlanta Middle School Rabbs defeat Jefferson
First Quarter- the Rabbs put together a long drive, capping it off with a 4-yard pass from Brayden Thompson to Gavin Bumphus. 6-0 Atlanta. The Atlanta defense stuffs Jefferson on fourth down and put together another nice drive.
Second Quarter- Thompson scrambles down inside the 5-yard line, and Kelvin Roberson barrels into the endzone a couple plays later. Jayden Finley caught the 2-point. 14-0 Rabbits. Jefferson busted a big run to cut into the lead just before the half 14-8. The Rabbs get into the red zone but come up short.
Third Quarter- After another defensive stop, Atlanta’s offense put together another great drive, Roberson and KD Howell had nice runs, and Thompson burst around the edge for a big gain deep into dog territory. Roberson finished the drive with a 9-yard scamper to make it 20-8.
Fourth Quarter- Roberson intercepted a Jefferson pass, cut up field, ran over a defender and took it all the way in from 78 yards out. Thompson found Bumphus on the slant pattern for the 2-point. 28-8 Rabbs. The seventh grade Rabbits move to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in district play.
8A Atlanta 26 Jefferson 14
First Quarter- Jefferson intercepts a Rabbit pass on the first play, taking it inside the 5 yard line. The defense stood tall and forced a turnover on downs. Once again, the Rabbs drive stalled, giving Jefferson good field position, the bulldogs bled the clock down and got on the board to end the First. 8-0 Rabbs.
Second Quarter- Atlanta answered Jefferson quickly with nice runs from TJ Rainey, and Dre Simmons. Breckin Wells and Jaylen Henderson had clutch catches. Simmons capped the drive with a 12-yard dash to the end zone 8-6. The rest of the First half would be a defensive struggle, the Rabbs get the ball down inside the 5 as time expired on a nice pass from Noah Sheffield to Simmons.
Third Quarter- After a big defensive stop, Atlanta put together a quick drive, Simmons dashed through the defense on 44-yard score to put Atlanta up 12-8. Ean Riojas intercepted a Jefferson pass on the ensuing drive, taking it all the way for the pick-6. 18-8.
Fourth Quarter- Atlanta’s defense was very stingy, giving the offense great field position once again. On the first play Rainey bounced to the outside and scored from 24 yards out. Jordan Platt added the 2-point run. 26-8.
Jefferson scored on the last play of the game. Final score 26-14.
Atlanta’s eighth grade moves to 3-1-1 on the season and 2-0 in district play.
The AMS Rabbs will host White Oak at Rabbit Stadium this Thursday with kickoff set for 4:30 p.m.
