Atlanta Middle School boys take down Bulldogs
After a highly competitive first quarter, the eighth grade Rabbits (3-0) pulled away the next three to remain unbeaten, drumming the Queen City Bulldogs 44-15.
Deondre Simmons filled up the box score with 16 points, while TJ Rainey added 10. Hayes Highland facilitated the offense for the Rabbs and added four points. Noah Sheffield and Jaylen Henderson played significant roles and had six points each. Lincoln Moore had six points for Queen City.
The seventh grade Rabbits (2-1), led by Aiden Shields 12 points, also rolled, 39-21. Ayden Washington and Kelvin Roberson scored eight each, and Jaiden Finley added four. Raylen Dowden had 10 for the Bulldogs.
In the most competitive game of the evening the 8B Bulldogs defeated the Rabbs 17-15. Karter Clarke had seven for the winners, while Rusty Burge had four for Atlanta.
Atlanta was also victorious in the 7B game, 28-5. Levi Cook led all scorers with six.
McLeod at Fouke
On Dec. 5, McLeod’s boys’ basketball team ran its season record to 10-0 with a solid 54-37 win over Fouke.
The beginning score of 0-0 would be as close as the Panthers would get as the ’Horns raced out to an 18-10 lead after quarter one, and a 30-16 lead at the half. Kannon Dempsey turned in another double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds plus seven assists, Colton Spence added 13 points with five rebounds, Grayson Owens had eight points with five rebounds, Jaxon Smith posted four points with eight rebounds, Kason Cook had four points and Jase Deaton had five steals.
McLeod Tourney
On Dec. 7-9, McLeod hosted the McLeod Varsity Boys’ Basketball Tournament with eight teams entered to play.
On Thursday Dec. 7, Paul Pewitt topped James Bowie 56-52, Avery trounced Waskom 75-29, Pewitt beat Rivercrest 72-56, McLeod defeated James Bowie 46-28, Maud edged Avery 43-39, White Oak crushed Waskom 63-23, McLeod beat Rivercrest 41-38 and White Oak topped Maud 44-36.
On Friday, Dec. 8, James Bowie beat Rivercrest 36-24, Avery beat White Oak 44-39, Waskom beat Maud 46-43 and McLeod slammed Pewitt 60-35.
On the final day of the tourney and to determine bracket seeding White Oak beat out Pewitt 53-39.
Pewitt went on to beat Avery 51-41 while White Oak beat Maud 60-32. James Bowie sent White Oak home after a 57-37 win, McLeod advanced over Maud with a 30-26 victory, Pewitt lost to Waskom 67-61 and Rivercrest beat Avery 48-31.
Rivercrest advanced to the title game after topping Waskom 55-42, and the Longhorns advanced to the championship game with a 47-34 win over James Bowie. The Pirates beat Waskom 57-49 for third place.
In the title game, McLeod (16-0 on the season) won the crown with a dominant 49-29 win over the Rebels.
In Pool A White Oak and Avery were 2-1 while Maud and Waskom went 1-2. In Pool B McLeod was 3-0, Pewitt 2-1 and both Rivercrest and James Bowie were 1-2.
