Atlanta junior high track crowned district champs
Atlanta’s junior high boys’ athletic program is cooking something big for the future.
When you hear schools talk about the pipeline it isn’t the plumbing.
That means in a few years we’ll reload with talent. The young Rabbits went a step further than a hat trick Mar. 29, when both the seventh and eighth grade tracksters won district crowns.
Both groups of young Rabbs have won district championships in football, basketball, cross country and now track which isn’t easy to do.
The future definitely looks bright for the maroon and white.
Seventh Grade
The seventh grade squad rolled to the championship with 167 points.
Hooks was second with 119, DeKalb third with 79, Queen City fourth with 67, New Boston fifth with 62, Redwater sixth with 54, Paul Pewitt seventh with 33 and Red Lick eighth with 32.
In the 100m dash Omeria Kinney placed fifth at 13.12; in the 200m dash Irieon Reynolds placed third at 28.59, Jaylon Shelton fourth at 28.65 and Kinney fifth at 28.79; in the 400m dash Aden Bolt placed fourth at 1:05.71; in the 100m hurdles Tyson Blaylock placed fourth at 20.59 and in the 300m hurdles Blaylock placed third at 52.29 and Evan Mitchell placed fifth at 54.90.
In the 800m run Bolt placed first and Kason Linwood second with times of 2:33.99 and 2:39.88 respectively; in the 1600m run Brennon Allen placed third at 6:23.57 and Campbell Autrey fourth at 6:27.63 and in the 2400m run Allen was second at 9:58.37 and Autrey third at 10:06.19.
The 4x100m relay team of Jayden Riley, Toddy Webster, Kayden Linwood and Marshawn Woodberry placed first at 50.13; the 4x200m relay team of Jayden Riley, Kayden Linwood, Marshawn Woodberry and Omeria Kinney placed first at 1:48.78 and the 4x400m relay team of Aden Bolt, Jayden Riley, Toddy Webster and Marshawn Woodberry placed first at 4:14.18.
In the long jump Riley placed first at 17 feet, 8 inches; in the triple jump Webster placed third at 29 feet, 5 inches and Kayden Price fifth at 29 feet even; in shot put Riley placed first at 38 feet, 6 inches and in the discus Nate Hernandez placed second with a mark of 87 feet, 5 1/2 inches.

The eighth grade team steamrolled its way to a championship as well by compiling 225 points which was 120 points better than second place Hooks who notched 105.
New Boston was third with 94 points followed by Redwater with 69, QC with 44, Pewitt with 32.5, Red Lick with 31.5 and DeKalb with 19.
In the 100m dash Kam Williams, Braylen Rowe and Peyton Harrison placed 1-2-3 with times of 11.37, 12.06 and 12.12 respectively; in the 200m dash Asher Wells placed first at 24.93 and Harrison fourth at 26.65; in the 400m dash Harrison placed fourth at 1:03.67; in the 100m hurdles Sye Stroman placed fourth at 18.94 and Marquez Richardson placed sixth at 19.61 and in the 300m hurdles Richardson was second at 48.34, Easton Owens third at 48.81 and Stroman fourth at 48.87.
In the 800m run Will Davis placed first at 2:28.59; in the 1600m run Davis placed second at 5:47.56 and Juan Campos was fifth at 6:10.11 and in the 2400m run Owen Flint placed fifth at 10:07.69.
The 4x100m relay team of Markeylin Batton, Jamarion Austin, Kam Williams and Asher Wells placed first at 45.70; the 4x200m relay team of Markeylin Batton, Braylen Rowe, Jamarion Austin and Kam Williams placed first at 1:38.96 and the 4x400m relay team of Markeylin Batton, Jamarion Austin, Asher Wells and Easton Owens placed third at 4:07.52.
In the long jump Batton placed first with a mark of 17 feet, 10 1/2 inches, Harrison was third at 15 feet, 10 3/4 inches and Austin was fourth at 15 feet, 3 inches; in the triple jump Batton placed first at 33 feet, 10 inches, Harrison was third at 33 feet, 9 inches and Owens placed sixth at 31 feet, 3 inches; in the high jump Rowe placed first at 5 feet, 4 inches and Austin third at 5 feet even; in the pole vault Brady Partain placed fifth at 7 feet, 6 inches and Stroman placed sixth at 7 feet, 6 inches; in discus Kyle Gross placed first at 127 feet, 10 inches and Kheaton Kinney fourth at 87 feet, 3 inches and in shot put Kinney placed first with a heave of 48 feet, 4 inches and Gross placed second at 39 feet, 9 1/4 inches.
