Atlanta Iron posts most-ever regional qualifiers
Atlanta Iron has been a force to be reckoned with since its inception a few years back.
Several regional and state qualifiers have graced the big stage and one Rabbit lifter brought home a state championship.
The onset of a virus no one knew how to combat at the time completely shut down last year’s state competition.
A year later and Atlanta Iron is sending the most regional qualifiers it has ever had to Henderson for competition.
What’s more impressive is that this year the Texas High School Powerlifting Association combined both 3A and 4A together.
Rabbit lifters representing Region 3 Division are Avery Whitlow, Dekorian Parker, Trey Adams, Ty Blizzard, Clay Fant, Isaiah Harrison, Jaden Wells, Tyrell King and Caden Walker.
Freshman lifter Josiah Hunt is an alternate and makes up the tenth lifter Atlanta Iron will send to regionals.
Atlanta Iron only has two seniors on the qualifying squad, six juniors, one sophomore and one freshman which means the future looks bright for a program that has competed very well since the beginning.
“This is the toughest competition we have ever had as the THSPA combined 3A and 4A this year,” Head Coach Craig Fant said. “The top 12 in each class qualify based on their totals for the year (75 to 125 lifters per class in our region in most classes). The top two at the regional meet qualify for state.”
“We will weigh in Wednesday and lift Thursday afternoon at the Henderson High School Indoor,” Fant added. “Bars will be loaded at 4 p.m.”
