Atlanta Iron claims first overall at Atlanta Iron Invitational

When Atlanta Iron competes they compete to win and when home turf is involved you can believe they put their all into it.

Feb. 3, Atlanta hosted the Atlanta Iron Invitational and edged out a tough competitor in Texas High to win its own meet.

Atlanta finished with 54 points, Texas High had 53 and Hughes Springs was third with 22 points.

Carthage, Queen City and Waskom also had lifters present for the meet.

Outstanding Overall Lifters (using the body weight formula) were Logan Shelton on light platforms and Trey Adams on heavy platforms.

Avery Whitlow placed first in the 114-pound weight class with a total of 630 pounds lifted, Logan Shelton placed first in the 165’s with a total lift of 1,080 pounds, Kentrel Andrews placed first in the 181’s with a total lift of 1,100 pounds, Trey Adams placed first in the 220-pound weight class with a total lift of 1,430 pounds and Cade Fant placed first in the 275’s with a total of 1,430 pounds lifted.

DK Parker placed second in the 181-pound weight class with a total of 1,065 pounds lifted, Jeremiah Jefferson placed second in the 198’s with a total lift of 1,085 and Ty Blizzard placed second in the 220’s with a total lift of 1,155 pounds.

Deaundrea Mitchell placed third in the girls’ bracket after lifting a total of 705 pounds, Clay Fant placed third in the 220’s with a total lift of 1,115 pounds and Noah Hunt placed third in the 242’s with a total of 1,090 pounds lifted.

Fourth place finishers were Adrian Kennington who lifted a total of 825 pounds in the 148-pound weight class, Brendan Clayton who lifted a total of 800 pounds in the 181’s, Amarian Thomas who lifted a total of 890 pounds in the 198’s and Isaiah Harrison who lifted a total of 1,080 pounds in the 242’s.

Fifth place finishers were Hunter Dodson who lifted a total of 665 pounds in the 198’s, Brennan Gaston who lifted a total of 1,060 pounds in the 220’s and Jaden Wells who lifted a total of 1,150 pounds in the 275-pound weight class.

Xavier Nash (165-pound weight class) and Carson Dillinger (220-pound weight class) both placed sixth after lifting a total of 745 pounds and 1,035 pounds respectively.

Carlos Cortes placed eighth in the 242’s after lifting a total of 905 pounds, Morgan Bivins placed eighth in the 275’s with a total lift of 875 pounds and Deaundre Mitchell placed ninth in the 242’s with a total lift of 890 pounds.

Head Coach Craig Fant had this to say about the meet.

“We had a fun meet. These weight room meets are packed and up tempo with a lot of energy in there,” Fant said. “I’m proud of our kids and very appreciative of all the workers and volunteers.”

Atlanta Iron will next compete in the Dragon Invitational at Redwater High School this Thursday Feb. 13.
