Atlanta girls win Area title

Track

Rain delayed the District 13 and 14-3A Area track meet last Wednesday, but Thursday, Apr. 10, was a beautiful, sunny day for competition at Winnsboro High School.

When the dust settled Atlanta’s varsity girls’ squad won the Area crown with 173 points. Mineola was second with 112, Mount Vernon was third with 77, Harmony was fourth with 71 and Quitman rounded out the top 5 with 47 points.

On the varsity boys’ side Winnsboro won the Area title with 113 points, Atlanta was second with 110, Quitman was third with 76, Mount Vernon was fourth with 63 and Winona was fifth with 62 points.

Atlanta Varsity Boys

In the 200m dash Cooper Swanson placed third at 23.44; in the 100m hurdles Sye Stroman placed first at 15.23; in the 300m hurdles Stroman placed second at 41.98, Marquayvious Richardson placed third at 42.35 and Marquavion Owens placed fifth at 43.00; in the 800m run Ian Bard placed fifth at 2:08.68; in the 1600m run Ethan Scott placed sixth at 5:01.16 and in the 3200m run Scott placed sixth at 11:19.91.

The 4x100m relay team of Eli Riojas, Kayden Linwood, Swanson and Braylin Rowe placed third at 44.82; the 4x200m relay team of Richardson, Riojas, Linwood and Swanson placed third at 1:32.26 and the 4x400m relay team of Stroman, Richardson, Riojas and Linwood placed first at 3:30.50.

In long jump Jaden Riley placed first at 20 feet, 11 inches and Owens placed sixth at 19 feet, 6 1/2 inches; in triple jump Owens placed first at 43 feet, 1 inch; in high jump Aidan Boston placed second at 6 feet, 2 inches and in pole vault Chris Swanson placed sixth at 11 feet, 6 inches.

Varsity Girls

In the 100m dash Chantoya Hurd placed first at 12.37 and Makaylin King placed fourth at 12.87; in the 200m dash JD Larry placed first at 27.39 and Hurd placed second at 27.84; in the 400m dash Markavia Garner placed sixth at 1:03.89; in the 100m hurdles Kym Sheppard placed first at 15.94 and Ryleigh Thompson placed sixth at 17.54; in the 300m hurdles Sheppard placed second at 49.01 and Amelia Jones placed sixth at 52.19; in the 1600m run Aurelia Giesler placed second at 5:47.85 and Lucy Ransom placed third at 5:50.00 and in the 3200m run Ransom placed second at 13:00.31, Giesler was third at 13:12.56 and Emma Allen placed fifth at 13:44.52.

The 4x100m relay team of AnneMarie Hanner, King, Larrry and Hurd placed first at 49.59; the 4x200m relay team of Skylar Spencer, Hanner, Shamijala Gillam and Larry placed first at 1:44.82 and the 4x400m relay team of Spencer, Hanner, Gillam and Garner placed second at 4:09.00.

Hurd placed first in long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 5 inches; Sheppard placed third in triple jump with a mark of 35 feet even; Caitlynn Bailey placed first in high jump with a mark of 5 feet even and in shot Larry placed second with a toss of 35 feet, 4 inches.

QC competes at Area

Queen City track stars took to the oval for competition in the District 13 and 14-3A Area track meet at Winnsboro High School on Thursday, Apr. 10.

Varsity Boys

The 4x100m relay team of Delvon Federick, DJ Henson, Nickolas Herring and Charlie Campbell- Kirkland placed fourth at 44.99; the 4x200m relay team of the same lineup placed fifth at 1:32.46 and the 4x400m relay team of Hunter Parker, Federick, Henson and Daketrick Smith placed sixth at 3:41.00.

In triple jump Henson placed second at 42 feet, 2 inches and Smith placed fifth at 40 feet, 5 1/2 inches; in discus Levi Byrum placed second at 130 feet, 3 inches and in shot David Jackson placed first at 46 feet, 9 inches.

Varsity Girls

The 4x100m relay team of Dori Sasser, Brooke Garner, Serenity Oden and Jamecia Cook placed sixth at 53.92; in discus Grace Alexander placed second at 105 feet, 7 inches; in triple jump Garner placed fifth at 34 feet, 3 1/4 inches and in pole vault Kaylin Griffin placed sixth at 8 feet even.

Glasgow sisters earn trip to Regionals

Bloomburg’s Jacee and Cassie Glasgow advanced to Regionals after turning in solid performances at the District 23 and 24-1A Area track meet on Apr. 11, in Mt. Pleasant.

Jacee Glasgow placed first in the 100m hurdles with a time of 16.50 and Cassie Glasgow placed second in both the triple jump and long jump events with marks of 32 feet, 5 inches and 15 feet, 8 inches respectively.

L-K, McLeod compete

at Area

Linden-Kildare and McLeod track athletes competed in the 21 and 22-2A Area track at Cushing High School on Apr. 11.

Linden-Kildare

L-K’s varsity girls’ squad finished second overall and turned in some blazing times.

In the 200m dash Summer Gibson placed fourth at 27.02; in the 100m hurdles Maggee Winters placed third at 17.24; in pole vault Winters placed third at 7 feet, 6 inches and Jamiah Birmingham placed first in long jump at 16 feet, 8 3/4 inches and first in triple jump at 36 feet, 9 1/4 inches.

The Lady Tigers swept the relays. The 4x100m relay team of Kalissa Roberts, Gibson, Madi Bynum and Birmingham placed first at 50.62; the 4x200m relay team of the same lineup placed first at 1:47.84 and the 4x400m relay team of Winters, Roberts, Bynum and Birmingham placed first at 4:16.79. For the guys, Daquavious Richardson placed sixth in the 100m dash at 11.14.

McLeod

Jaxon Smith placed second at 23.10 in the 200m dash; Lila McKnight placed fourth in the 400m dash at 1:04.73 and the 4x400m relay team of Kannon Dempsey, TJ Klingensmith, Grayson Owens and Smith placed sixth at 3:42.57.
