Atlanta boys’ track team wins number 17 in 26 years

Junior varsity squad rolls to title

Atlanta’s varsity boys’ track team has owned its own relay since its inception back in 1996.

The 26th running of the Atlanta Lions Club/Gordon Pynes/Runnin’ Rabbs Relays went off without a hitch Mar. 13, and when the dust had settled and the final points tallied Atlanta had won the day with a point total of 217.

Rival Liberty-Eylau placed second with 163 points, Daingerfield was third with 85, Beckville had 83 and Redwater finished with 42.

Atlanta has won 17 of the 26 Rabbs Relays with Texas High winning four in that span, Longview one and Tatum one with three cancellations.

Set aside last year’s cancellation and the Rabbs have won the past four home meets.

Varsity

In the 100m dash Zakyus Jackson placed third at 11.61 and Isaiah Henderson placed sixth at 11.96; in the 200m dash Austin Young and La’Randion Dowden placed 4-5 with times of 24.17 and 24.35 respectively; in the 400m dash Matthew Cauley placed first with a time of 52.67; in the 110m hurdles Kameron George placed second at 16.75, Stacy Darty placed fifth at 17.63 and Lakecion Matthews placed sixth at 17.93 and in the 300m hurdles Darty placed first at 42.25, George second at 43.27 and Zachariah Jefferson sixth at 45.47.

In the 800m run Xzavian Johnson placed first at 2:08.89, Jaquan Robinson placed second at 2:09.00 and Hudson Hale placed fifth at 2:24.66; in the 1600m run Noah Dowda, Hudson Hale and Will Porterfield placed 1-2-3 with times of 5:26.12, 6:15.68 and 6:33.26 respectively and in the 3200m run Dowda placed first at 11:55.72 and Kolton Gonzales second at 13:35.44.

The 4x100m relay team of Jackson, Henderson, Dowden and Kameron Dickerson placed fifth at 46.62; the 4x200m relay team of Jackson, Noah Harris, Henderson and Dowden placed fourth at 1:34.06 and the 4x400m relay team of Cauley, Harris, Robinson and Johnson placed second at 3:33.49.

In the field events Daniel Hernandez placed sixth in long jump at 17 feet, 4 1/2 inches; Keyshawn Easter placed first at 43 feet, 2 inches, Darty fourth at 40 feet, 7 inches and Markavion Owens sixth at 37 feet, 7 inches in triple jump and Daimion Collins placed first at 6 feet, 5 inches and Easter second at 5 feet, 10 inches in the high jump.

Hunter Clayton placed first in the pole vault at 14 feet even while teammates Will Porterfield placed third at 10 feet, 6 inches and Josiah Hunt placed fifth at 8 feet, 6 inches; Tyrell King placed first in shot put with a heave of 42 feet, 3 inches and Trey Adams placed second with a toss of 41 feet, 3 inches and in discus Adams placed fourth with a lob of 108 feet, 5 inches.

JV

The junior varsity team racked up 150 points en route to a first place finish Mar. 11.

Maud placed second with 91 points, McLeod third with 90, Prairliland had 89, Terrell 63, Leverett’s Chapel 42, Daingerfield 38 and L-E 35.

In the 100m dash Zackyus Jackson placed first at 11.49; in the 200m dash Eli Riojas placed second at 24.57; in the 400m dash Christian Banks placed second at 55.80 and Carmello Henderson third at 57.73; in the 110m hurdles Stacy Darty placed first at 17.70 and in the 300m hurdles Darty placed second at 43.10 and Markavion Owens placed fifth at 46.08.

In the 800m run Hudson Hale placed fourth at 2:18.00 and Kolton Gonzales sixth at 2:23.96 and in the 1600m run Gonzales placed second at 5:30.30.

The 4x100m relay team of Cooper Swanson, Jabranden Wells, Isaiah Chandler and Jackson placed first at 45.26; the 4x200m relay team of Dimoree Limbrick, Wells, Jackson and Riojas placed first at 1:35.33 and the 4x400m relay team of Chandler, Riojas, Banks and Hale placed first at 3:45.43.

In the triple jump event Owens placed third with a leap of 37 feet, 5 inches; in the high jump Limbrick placed fifth with a mark of 5 feet, 6 inches and in the pole vault Adrian Kennington placed first at 11 feet even, Chris Swanson third at 8 feet, 6 inches and Cooper Swanson sixth at 8 feet, 6 inches.

The Rabbs will be back in action Thursday, Mar. 18, at Redwater’s Fire and Ice Relays.
