Atlanta
Jan. 14, the Atlanta varsity boys’ basketball team demolished Redwater in a road game, 78-37. Hunter Allen posted 22 points; Daimion Collins added 17 points, 11 rebounds and six blocks; Keyshawn Easter had 10 points; Alex Boston nine, Kameron Dickerson eight, Caleb Hamilton five, and JJ Fields five. Jan. 17, the Rabbs hosted DeKalb and topped the Bears, 75-49. Hunter Allen poured in 20 points; Daimion Collins recorded 18 points with 11 boards and 11 blocks; Alex Boston added 16 points and Keyshawn Easter had 15 points. The Rabbs are ranked 15th in the TABC rankings.
McLeod Longhorns
Jan. 14, McLeod played Rivercrest in district play and won, 65-49. Trevor Deel scored 20 points and had 20 rebounds, Casey Smith posted 13 points and Keldyn Schubert added eight. The JV team won, 31-26, with Gabe Groves scoring 10 points and Braden Parker eight. Jan. 17, McLeod battled a tough Clarksville team last Friday night and the contest came down to the wire. The Longhorns had a, 21-11, lead after one quarter of play and then posted a, 33-19, lead at the break. Clarksville finished the third quarter on a 20-11 run which set the score at, 44-39, in favor of the ’Horns going into the final frame. Both teams traded baskets in the fourth quarter as the Tigers outscored McLeod 25-24 but the Longhorns held on for a dramatic, 68-64, win over Clarksville. Trevor Deel led all scorers with 24 points and he also posted 15 rebounds, Casey Smith added 19 points, Keldyn Schubert poured in nine points with 12 assists and Austin Gilmore had eight points. The Longhorns (23-2, 4-0) are ranked eighth in the TABC rankings.
Lady Longhorns
The Lady Longhorns beat Rivercrest, 58-45, with Kaitlyn Cross scoring 29, Cary May 14 and Sibbie Comer nine. The JV girls’ team fell, 29-25, in overtime but Chassie Gryder scored 11 for the Lady Longhorns. The Lady Longhorns fell to a tough Clarksville squad, 56-39, with Kaitlyn Cross posting 18 points and Sibbie Comer nine.
Junior High
Jan. 9, the junior high Longhorns and Lady Longhorns played Maud. The girls won, 20-14, with Kenslee Cross scoring 14 points and the boys won, 38-31, with Jaxon Smith scoring 14 points and Kannon Dempsey 11.
The Lady Rabbs seventh grade A team won, 21-11, over Redwater with Carlajah Adger putting up 15 points, Elliana Edwards added four and Asaia Heard two.
Atlanta’s eighth grade A team won, 32-24, against Redwater with Kym Sheppard scorching the nets for 20 points, Makaylin King had eight, Kalissa Reliford two and Stacey Nelson one.
Atlanta’s seventh grade A boys’ team beat Redwater, 49-27, with Braylen Rowe posting 18 points, Jamarion Austin 10 and Aiden Boston eight. The eighth grade A team also won over the Dragons, 58-16, with Larandion Dowden scoring 15 points, Dimoree Limbrick 14, Andrew Boston 12 and Will Wilcox six.
The Morris Upchurch Middle School girls’ basketball programs took on New Boston last week. The seventh grade A team lost, 25-21, with Laterika Jackson scoring seven points. The eighth grade A team won convincingly, 50-15, with Alex Larry scoring 16 points and the eighth grade B team fell, 12-7, with Halissya Green scoring six points.
