AMS Rabbs split with Sabine

Atlanta Middle School’s football program took on Sabine last week.

The teams split decisions as the seventh grade team fell 34-18 but the eighth grade team won 42-22.

Seventh Grade

In the seventh grade game the Rabbs opened the scoring on a 13-yard pass from Liam McKinney to Landon Thomas but Sabine answered and tied the score at 6-all.

In the second quarter Atlanta retook the lead after a 71-yard dash from TJ Hamilton.

Sabine added two scores of their own to go up 28-12 at the half.

In the third quarter the Rabbs’ defense battled hard as TJ Hamilton and Easton Patterson forced two Sabine fumbles.

In the final quarter the Rabbs added a score on a 7-yard TD run from Kaigen Loyd which was set up by two big pass plays from McKinney to Thomas.

This brought the score to 28-18 and that would be as close as the Rabbs would get as Sabine added a late score.

Eighth Grade

In the eighth grade game the Rabbs got on the board quick with a nice drive capped by a one-yard Jayden Riley run.

Riley completed the 2-point pass to Eli Mitchell to make it 8-0. After the Rabbs’ defense stood tall, the Rabbs scored quickly again; this time Riley around the left end for a 30-yard dart.

Marshawn Woodberry added the 2-point run to make it 16-0.

In the second quarter Nate Hernandez intercepted a Sabine screen pass and rumbled for 20 yards to set the Rabbs up nicely again.

Riley hit Tyson Blalock on a nice screen pass, followed by a big pass play to Kayden Price to put the ball deep in Sabine territory.

On the next play, Riley found Toddy Webster wide open in the end zone to put the Rabbs up big 22-0. Sabine answered with a 20-yard strike and 2-point to cut the score to 24-8.

Later in the quarter Riley fired a deep ball which was intercepted by Sabine.

Riley never gave up on the play, stripped the ball from the defender and took it back all the way for a 70-yard return and a touchdown to push the score to 30-8.

In the third quarter Sabine added an early touchdown and 2-point play to bring the score to 30-16.

Sabine recovered an onside kick but the Rabbs’ defense kept them from scoring from the 1-yard line to keep it a 30-16 game.

On the ensuing drive, Riley takes to ball and bursts for a 99-yard score to push the count to 36-16.

Sabine added another touchdown on a long pass play to make it 36-22.

On the next Rabbs’ drive, Riley took it around the right end, hurdled a defender, and raced 56 yards for his sixth touchdown on the night. Riley also had an interception on defense.

The score was 42-22 entering the final stanza.

The fourth quarter was back-and-forth good defensive play and with the game winding down Hollan Howard made a big tackle to save a big play.

The Rabbs went on to win 42-22.

This Thursday night the Rabbs take on Gladewater at Rabbit Stadium.
