AMS Rabbs shred Tatum
Seventh grade
Atlanta’s seventh grade team opened the game with an onside kick recovery. It wouldn’t take long for them to capitalize on a nice 50-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown from Jayden Riley to Chence Plattenburg.
Marshawn Woodberry added the 2-point play to make it 8-0 Rabbs.
After a defensive stop the Rabbs would score quickly on a 60-yard scamper by Riley. Kayden Linwood added the 2-point play to make it 16-0.
Later in the quarter Dylan Phillips recovered a Tatum fumble at the 18-yard line. The next play Plattenburg would cut and spin and waltz into the end zone again to make it 22-0.
Still in the first quarter the Rabbs would turn the Eagles over on downs inside the 30. A couple of plays later Riley scampered around the left end for yet another touchdown. The score pushed the Atlanta lead to 28-0.
In the second quarter, Kegan Surratt intercepted a Tatum pass and returned it all the way inside the 30-yard line, but the Rabbs fumbled on the ensuing drive giving the ball back to Tatum deep in their own territory.
The Rabbits held on to a 28-0 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, the Rabbs would score quickly on a 35-yard run from Riley. Toddy Webster added the 2-point play to make it 36-0. Tatum added a score to make it 36-6.
In the fourth quarter, Riley added the finishing touches going all the way on an option play from 26 yards out.
Tatum added another late score to bring the final score to 42-14.
Riley finished the day with seven carries for 168 yards and six total touchdowns. Plattenburg had two receiving touchdowns.
Other standouts included Dylan’s Phillips and Tyson Blaylock. The seventh grade Rabbs moved to 6-0 on the season.
Eighth grade
The eighth grade Rabbs’ defense stuffed the Eagles on their opening drive forcing a punt.
Two plays later, Easton Owens tossed a jailbreak screen to Braylen Rowe who went untouched for 46 yards and a touchdown.
Landon Johnson added the 2-point play to make the score 8-0. The Rabbs’ defense would force a turnover and get the ball back in Tatum territory.
On the very next play Owens found Asher Wells wide open for another 46-yard touchdown pass. Jamarion Austin added the 2-point try and made it 16-0 Rabbs.
The Rabbs’ defense forced another punt setting the Rabbs up around midfield.
Markeylin Batton caught two nice balls from Owens setting the Rabbs up in the red zone.
On the second play of the second quarter Batton would finish the drive with a 19- yard scamper around the right end which boosted the score to 22-0.
The Rabbs would get a lucky bounce on the ensuing kickoff falling right into the hands of Brandon Edwards.
Yet the Rabbs would fumble on the next play, giving the Tatum Eagles the ball in Rabb territory.
Neither team would get anything going on the next couple drives.
Later in the quarter the Rabbs fumbled again, this time picked up and returned for a touchdown by Tatum. The point after was no good but the Eagles were on the board 22-6.
The Rabbs would also fumble the ensuing kickoff, but turned their misfortune into success.
On the very first play of the drive Peyton Harrison intercepted a Tatum pass and returned it 50 yards for a Rabbit touchdown which pushed the score to 28-6.
Peyton Harrison came in at QB on the final drive of the half and completed nice passes to Batton and Wells, but would be stopped just short of the goal line to end the half 28-14.
In the third quarter, on the opening play from scrimmage Jamarion Austin roared around the right end and scored from 51 yards out.
Batton ran in the 2-point play to make it 36-14 Rabbs.
Tatum answered quickly and brought the score to 36-22. The Rabbs turned it over on downs on its next drive giving Tatum good field position.
Two plays later the Atlanta defense would force yet another turnover, recovered by Asher Wells.
Wells would make a ridiculous run all the way for a touchdown on the very next play but it would be negated by a hold.
It wouldn’t take long before Batton would skate all the way inside the 5-yard line on a 50-yard run the very next play.
Austin took it in from four yards out and Wells would add the 2-point catch from Owens to bring the score to 44-22.
The Rabbs stopped Tatum on their next drive and put together a nice drive with big runs from Johnson of 37 yards and Austin of 17 yards.
Batton would finish off the drive with a 31-yard catch and run from Owens which set the score at 50-22. On Tatum’s next drive, Batton stepped in front of an Eagle pass and returned it 80 yards for a touchdown to bring the score to 56-22 late in the game.
Tatum would add one more late score in garbage time making it 56-30.
With the win Atlanta moved to 5-1 and 4-0 in district on the season.
Easton Owens finished the day. 5-for-9 with 162 yards and three touchdowns. Defensive MVP of the game was Brandon Edwards. He recovered two fumbles and had 11 tackles with three for a loss.
