AMS Rabbs go toe-to-toe with Leopards, crush White Oak

Atlanta’s middle school football program stood firm in its play against Liberty-Eylau on Sept. 16, as the Rabbs tied the Leopards in both games
Seventh Grade
In the seventh grade game L-E took an early lead on a toss play around the left edge from 60 yards out to go up 6-0.
In the second quarter T.J. Hamilton opens the quarter up with a 17-yard scamper. Later in the drive on fourth down Liam McKinney found Landon Thomas on a slant route for a first down.
The Rabbs finished off the drive in their heavy package. Jaylen Finley posted runs of eight and two yards to cap the drive with a touchdown.
The score was tied 6-6 at the half.
In the second half it would be a defensive battle between the two teams as the game ended in a 6-6 tie. Other standouts for the Rabbs were Kam Williams.
Eighth Grade
In the eighth grade game L-E opened up things with a long run by D. Prevo to go up 6-0.
The 2-point play was no good as Eli Mitchell stuffed the quarterback run play.
The Rabbs answered quickly as Jayden Riley found Evan Mitchell on the deep ball for a 30-yard gain to put the Rabbs on the edge of the redzone.
On the next play Marshawn Woodberry took the handoff and raced 21 yards to the endzone. Riley added the 2-point run and the score was set at 8-6 Rabbs.
In the second quarter the Rabbs forced a Leopard punt and L-E stopped a Rabbit drive, on fourth down.
L-E took the lead on a long run from Prevo. The 2-point pass was good making the score 14-8.
The Rabbs answered quickly on a 65-yard touchdown run from Riley.
Woodberry added the 2-point try to give the Rabbs the lead, 16-14.
The Rabbs’ defense made a big stand during the quarter as Brennon Allen made a great open field tackle on Prevo to end the half.
In the third frame Atlanta received the opening kickoff of the second half.
On third down Riley found Evan Mitchell again, this time on a slant pattern for a 25-yard gain.
Two plays later, Riley took the ball around the left end for a 26-yard gain to set the Rabbs up first-and-goal.
Riley capped the drive from two yards out. The 2-point play fell just inches short but the Rabbs were back on top 22-14.
IN the final quarter both teams would go back-and-forth with both defenses playing bend but don’t break. L-E added a score and the 2-point late to tie the game at 22 apiece.
Other standouts for the Rabbs were Kayden Price, Nate Hernandez and Eli Mitchell.
White Oak
On Sept. 23, the AMS Rabbs played White Oak and both teams won in impressive fashion.
Seventh Grade
In the seventh grade game Landon Thomas opened the game with a bang as he took the opening kickoff 60 yards for the game’s first score.
T.J. Hamilton ran in the 2-point play and put Atlanta up 8-0.
On the Rabbs’ next drive Hamilton punched it in again and Liam McKinney found Thomas for the 2-point reception to put Atlanta up 16-0.
Later in the quarter McKinney found Easton Owens behind the defense for a 20-yard TD reception.
The 2-point play was no good but the Rabbs were up 22-0.
The ensuing kickoff was fumbled by White Oak and recovered by Andres Campos.
That set up a 25-yard QB keeper for a touchdown by McKinney. Kaigen Loyd added the 2-point run to make it 30-0.
In the second stanza the Rabbs’ onslaught continued as Hamilton sliced and reversed field on a 45-yard run for another score.
Williams added the 2-point catch to push the score to 38-0.
Just before the half Kam Williams recovered a Roughneck fumble.
The very next play Hamilton took it 80 yards for the score. Loyd added the 2-point play to make the score 46-0 Rabbs at the half.
In the third quarter White Oak goes down and puts points on the board to cut the lead to 46-8.
On the Rabbs’ next drive Eddie Smith picked up a nice gain, and Kaigen Loyd finished the drive running through defenders into the endzone from 13 yards out.
AJ Falls added the 2-point play on a powerful run and the Rabbs were up 54-8.
White Oak added another score late in the fourth quarter, but the damage was already done as Atlanta won 54-16 and is now 1-0 in district play.
Eighth Grade
In the eighth grade game the Rabbs hopped on the board during the game’s opening play as Marshawn Woodberry took a handoff and went untouched 55 yards for the score.
Jayden Riley completed the 2-point pass to Toddy Webster to put Atlanta up 8-0.
White Oak put together a nice drive on its next possession but it ended with an interception from Woodberry.
Riley scored on a nice 66-yard jaunt as he broke several tackles on his way to the endzone.
Eli Mitchell caught the 2-point play from Riley and Atlanta was up 16-0.
In the second quarter Eli Mitchell intercepted a Roughneck pass and took it 70 yards to paydirt for a pick-6 touchdown.
That put Atlanta up 22-0 until Jay Shelton took a jet sweep and cruised 56 yards for another TD for the Rabbs.
Woodberry added the 2-point play to make it 30-0 at the half.
In the third quarter the Atlanta defense stood tall and after a White Oak punt Riley raced for a 27-yard score. Woodberry added another 2-point run to bring the score to 38-0.
Later Kayden Linwood made two big plays on a nice run of 10 yards and caught a swing pass from Riley for a 15-yard gain to set the Rabbs up just outside the goal line.
Braylen Bush took the QB keeper in from 1-yard out to push the score to 44-0.
With a running clock the final quarter flew by.
Atlanta capped off a big night with a scoop and score from 86 yards out by Omeria Kinney to make it 50-0.
That would be the final as the eighth grade moved to 1-0 in district.
The AMS Rabbs travel to Sabine this week to take on the Cardinals.
