AMS Rabbs dominate Mount Vernon
Seventh Grade Atlanta 38 Mount Vernon 0
First quarter - Cruz Crosby found Janson Wylie on a 15-yard catch and run to set the Rabbs up in Mount Vernon territory.
On the next play, Zay Smith raced around the right side for a 42-yard touchdown run and Atlanta was up 6-0.
On the ensuing drive, the Rabbit defense forced a three-and-out and Crosby returned the short punt 42 yards for a touchdown. Smith caught a 2-point pass to make it 14-0.
Second Quarter - After another three-and-out by the Tigers, the Rabbs scored quickly. Crosby found Jkyron Anderson over the middle for a 28-yard touchdown. Jataevion Ware added a 2-point run bringing the score to 22-0.
Second Half - Crosby to Anderson again was the combination as the Rabbits scored and after a Marq Anderson catch for the two points Atlanta was up 30-0.
The clock ran for most of the rest of the second half. Ware scored on a 25-yard run and after a 2-point play the Rabbs were up 38-0 and won by that margin.
Eighth Grade Atlanta 44 Mount Vernon 6
First Quarter - On the first play from scrimmage, Brayden Thompson found KD Howell up the left sideline for a big catch, down inside the Tiger 35yard line.
A few plays later, Roberson punched it in from a yard out. Roberson also caught the 2-point pass to put the Rabbs up 8-0.
Mount Vernon put together a nice drive which took the rest of the quarter, but they came up empty as the Rabbs’ defense stood tall aided by two tackles for loss by Hardy Sheppard and on fourth down Gaven Bumphus knocked away a pass.
Second Quarter - Thompson flipped the quick screen out to Bumphus who raced down deep into Tiger territory for a huge gain of 70 yards.
A couple of plays later, Roberson punched it in from six yards out to advance the lead to 14-0.
After another defensive stand, the Rabbs scored quickly. This time on a 10-yard run from Thompson. Roberson added the 2-point run to put Atlanta up 22-0 at the half.
Third Quarter – Mount Vernon put together a nice drive and punched it in to make the score 22-6.
On the ensuing Rabbit drive, Roberson broke two tackles and dashed 44 yards for another score. Aiden Shields caught the 2-point pass attempt from Thompson and the lead ballooned to 30-6.
On the next possession for Mount Vernon, Alex Bishop intercepted a Tiger pass and made a nice return into Tiger territory.
Thompson finished the drive with a 6-yard keeper to set the score at 36-6.
Fourth Quarter - After yet another defensive stand, Jaiden Finley skated around the left end for a huge run on a jet sweep. Howell put the finishing touches on the game with a 32-yard burst up the middle of the defense to make it 44-6 after a Cordemion Roquemore 2-point run.
That would be the final score. Both the seventh and eighth grade Rabbits move to 2-0 on the season. District play begins next Thursday, Sept. 26 night at White Oak.
