AMS Rabbits post wins over Mount Vernon Tigers

Rabbs seventh grade rolls to 4-0 district record with 38-16 thrashing of Mount Vernon

The weather was cool and crisp, a great night for football at Rabbit Stadium on the beautiful new turf. The Rabbs would prove once again to be too much for its opponent.

First Quarter

Easton Owens would find Asher Wells on a nice 56-yard pass to put the Rabbs up early, Markeylin Batton would add the 2-point to make the score 8-0 Rabbs. After a quick three-and-out, the Rabbs would get the ball back and Braylen Rowe would take to ball around the left end on a reverse from 30 yards out to put the Rabbs up 16-0 after a Jamarion Austin conversion.

Second Quarter

A big run from Batton, reversing field sets up the Rabbs deep in Tiger territory. Brandon Edwards would finish the drive on the next play with a 3-yard run. Batton added the 2-point play to make it 24-0 Rabbs early second quarter. Later in the second Batton would take the ball and race past everyone for a 33-yard touchdown run to put the Rabbs up 30-0. Just before the half Austin would break off a nice 70-yard run and be stopped just short of the goaline.

Third Quarter

Mount Vernon picked up a Rabbit fumble and took it 70 yards the other way for a touchdown, making the score 30-6. Later in the quarter, Brandon Edwards would score on a big 33-yard run, Batton would add the 2-point to put the Rabbs up 38-8. The Tigers would answer on their next drive to cap the scoring at 38-16.

Fourth Quarter

The final quarter turned out to be a defensive battle in the fourth quarter, as the Rabbs defense stepped up and stopped the Tigers again, this time with a Sye Stroman interception. Easton Owens would add another interception later in the quarter. Final score Rabbs 38 Tigers 16. Defensive standouts for the Rabbs were Kheaton Kinney, Decarvea Range, Ty Waldon and Taiwon Henderson.

Eighth grade Rabbs execute on both sides of the ball to roll over Tigers, move to 3-0 in district play.

First Quarter

The Rabbs would force a fumble and take over in Tigers’ territory. Larandian Dowden would run it in from 27 yards out to put the Rabbs up early, Limbrick would add the 2-point and made the score 8-0 Rabbs. On the next drive, Marquavion Owens would pick up another Tiger fumble around midfield. On the ensuing play, Limbrick would find a wide open Owens on a flea flicker, to put the Rabbs inside the 10 yard line. Limbrick would take it in a couple plays later to put the Rabbs up 14-0. Another Tiger fumble, this time recovered by Xavion Johnson, would give the Rabbs the ball back in Tiger territory again.

Second Quarter

Elvis Smith would punch it in from three yards out on the first play of the quarter, Limbrick added the 2-point conversion and the Rabbs would go up 22-0. On the next Atlanta drive, Cooper Swanson took a jet sweep and out ran the defense after breaking three tackles, on a 65-yard score, which would be called back for a hold. The next play Dowden would catch a screen pass and get the touchdown back on a great 68-yard catch and run. Rabbs up 30-0.

Third Quarter

Dowden completed a double pass on third-and-long to Will Woodruff who made a sliding catch to give the Rabbs a first down in Tiger territory. Later in the drive Dowden would punch it in to put the Rabbs up big 38-0 after a Swanson 2-point conversion on a jet sweep.

Fourth Quarter

The Rabbs got valuable reps for a lot of players as Quinten Tatum completed a nice 20-yard touchdown pass to Elijah Riojas. Mount Vernon would add a late touchdown. Final score Atlanta 38 Tigers 6. The Rabbs travel to Jefferson this week with the seventh grade kickoff scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
