AMS football dominates Brook Hill

The seventh grade A team beat Brook Hill 40-0.

In the first quarter and on the first play from scrimmage, quarterback Deondrae Simmons blasted around the right edge for a 49-yard score. TJ Rainey added the 2-point run and the Rabbs were up 8-0. The Rabbs’ defense stuffed the Brook Hill attack throughout the game. Atlanta got the ball back in good field position.

In the second quarter, Simmons took it around the right edge again, led by a big block from Rainey and scored from 21 yards out. Jamario Crawford added the 2-point play to make it 16-0.

Later in the quarter, Simmons found Hayes Highland for a 35-yard catch and run, and a couple of plays later found Highland again, this time wide open for a 30-yard touchdown.

Crawford added the 2-point run to make it 24-0 Rabbs.

The defense led by Ean Riojas and Michael Chambless, continued their great play. Halftime score 24-0.

In the third quarter, Simmons wasn’t done yet, as he dashed around the edge again, this time from 67 yards out, for his fourth TD of the game. Atlanta went up 32-0 after another Crawford 2-point run.

In the fourth frame, Crawford found some space and bolted past the defense for a 65-yard TD run. Simmons added the 2-point play to make it 40-0.

The defense finished the game only allowing Brook Hill four first downs. Simmons finished the game with six carries for 170 yards and three touchdowns. He also completed 2-of-4 passing for 65 yards and a score. The seventh grade Rabbits move to 3-0 on the season.

Seventh Grade B

The seventh grade B team beat Brook Hill 18-6 as Logan Johnson, Julian Johnson, and Drake Fagan all scored long touchdown runs.

Eighth Grade A

The eighth grade A team beat Brook Hill 22-8.

In the first stanza and after a sloppy start, the Rabbs went to their bag of tricks as Liam McKinney handed the ball to Easton Owens, who reversed it to Jacolby Wells, and he found daylight for a big 20yard gain.

On the next play, McKinney rolled left and found Kaigen Lloyd on the flats and he took the ball down inside the 5-yard line. TJ Hamilton finished the drive off on the next play for a touchdown and Atlanta was up 6-0. The Rabbs’ defense made a big stop on fourth down, against a potent Brook Hill passing attack.

In the second frame, Hamilton started the quarter with a bang as he took the handoff, broke multiple tackles, hit the sideline and raced 78 yards for a touchdown. McKinney ran in the 2-point play to make it 14-0. The Rabbit defense continued to play well led by linebacker Dailen Collins. The score at the half, Rabbs 14 - Guard 0.

In the third quarter and after another defensive stop, Atlanta executed another trick play, this time Lloyd took the toss, stopped and found Collins streaking up the left sideline. Collins made a tremendous catch, and stepped out of bounds at the 16.

Hamilton continued his big night on the next play as he slipped around the left edge and scored from 16 yards out to make it 20-0. McKinney found tight end Kam Williams for the 2-point catch and Atlanta was up 22-0.

On the next Brook Hill drive, Easton Patterson made a spectacular diving interception to give the Rabbs the ball back. McKinney made a tremendous run on a busted play to give the Rabbs a big first down before finding Hamilton on a swing pass deep into Brook Hill territory. The offense bled the clock into the fourth quarter.

In the finale quarter and after an Atlanta drive stalled on fourth and short, subs came into the game on both sides of the ball for Atlanta. These young men stepped in and played tough. Brook Hill added a late score as time expired to bring the final score to 22-8.

Hamilton finished the game with eight carries for 126 yards and three scores. Both the Atlanta seventh and eighth grade teams move to 3-0 on the year headed into the bye week.
