Alex Hammonds places first at tour stop in Daingerfield
The East Texas Junior Golf Tour has been rolling along since June 1, and Atlanta golf prodigy Alex Hammonds has been at the forefront.
With five different stops so far between Mt. Pleasant Country Club, Daingerfield Country Club and Princedale Country Club in Pittsburg, Hammonds has finished first in each event.
No other 11 & Under competitor on the tour has shot better than a 44 except Hammonds who has scores of 33, 36, and three 34’s.
The score of 33 tied an 11 & Under record in the process. In fact each of Hammonds’ scores this year have been records.
For each first place finish the golfer receives 20 points, second place is 15 points and third place is 10 points. From there every place hits single digit points.
As of this article Hammonds leads the field with 100 points which is 24 points better than the second place opponent.
With the Daingerfield stop the tournament marked the halfway point of the youth golfers’ tour season.
June 22, the tour was back at Mt. Pleasant Country Club where the golfers competed in the “Master’s Par 3” tournament.
This tournament is one of the highlights of the season as the entire 18-hole golf course is converted to a par 3 tournament.
The event is similar to what the PGA Tour does on the Wednesday before The Masters Tournament annually
The tour then stops at Sulphur Springs CC June 25, Mt. Pleasant CC June 29 and Princedale CC July 2.
The Tour Championship takes place July 7-8, and is by invite only. The top 15 golfers are invited to play and Hammonds will definitely receive an invite to this prestigious event.
Those interested in joining, tournaments are every Monday and Thursday and all information can be seen on the tour website: http://texasjuniorgolf.myfreesites.net or call Matt Garrett at (325) 939-3333.
