Shirley Sue Gilmore

August 24, 1935 - April 24, 2025

Shirley Sue Gilmore, age 89, of Jefferson, Texas, formerly of McLeod, Texas; went to be with the Lord Thursday, April 24, 2025, at her residence surrounded by family. Shirley was born August 24, 1935, in Queen City, Texas, to Coy Erastust and Bessie Thomas. She was a homemaker and a member of McLeod Tabernacle. Shirley enjoyed being Nennie to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennie Gerald Gilmore; her brothers, Murriel Emmerson Thomas, David John Thomas; and by her parents, Coy and Bessie Thomas.

She is survived by her children, Darlene Yates (Gary), Stephen Whelchel (Dessie), Toni Sue Kight (William), Marty Whelchel (Wendy), Kimberly Ann Lee (Terry), Rachel Walker (Teddy), Paul Gilmore (Kim), Marlana Yates (Gary); sister, Alice Ann Hemperly; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

Visitation was Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at McLeod Tabernacle.

Funeral services were at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, April 27, 2025, at McLeod Tabernacle with Rev. J.P. Story and Rev. J.D. Terry officiating.

Interment was in Courtland Cemetery, Queen City, Texas.
