Roger L. “Chipper” Young, Jr., 64, of Queen City, Texas, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025, in Spring, Texas.
Roger was born on June 6, 1961, in Fort Knox, Kentucky. He graduated from Queen City High School with the Class of 1980. He was a member of Queen City First Baptist Church and proudly served in the United States Army. He was employed by Amentum at Red River Army Depot.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roger L. Young, Sr. He is survived by his mother, Geniece Young of Queen City, Texas; his children, Brandy Nicole Young of Spring, Texas, and Ashley Segura (spouse Mari) of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and two beloved granddaughters, Sam and Inara Segura. He is also survived by his brother, Russell Young (wife Kim) of Atlanta, Texas; his sister, Debra Burns of Conroe, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Roger had a lifelong love for music and could often be found playing his guitar. He never stopped chasing the perfect sound and spent countless hours dialing in pedals and tones, always trying to match what he heard in his head. His passion for music was matched by his talent for magic. From his teenage years into adulthood, he performed magic shows at churches and schools across the area, bringing joy and wonder to everyone who watched. Whether through music or a well-timed trick, Roger loved to make people feel something — and he always did.
A celebration of Roger’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Springdale Baptist Church in Queen City, Texas.
The family will be receiving visitors at the home of his mother, Geniece Young, in Queen City.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Queen City High School Band program in Roger’s honor. (Donation details to be provided.)
