GERALD GENE CHASE

October 23, 1929 - November 16, 2019

Gerald Gene Chase, age 90, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, November 16, 2019. Gerald was born in Prentiss, MS, October 23, 1929, to Luther and Lois Chase.

He graduated from Holcut High School in 1947 and joined the Army shortly afterward where he served as a field medic during the Korean War.

Gerald is retired from International Paper after 36 years of service. In his later years he loved to garden and sell produce. He was an avid 42 domino player with his friends at the Senior Citizen Center, in Atlanta, TX.

He is a former commander of the VFW Post 5870 in Queen City, TX. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Bloomburg, TX.

He is survived by his grandsons: Chris Longacre and wife Jami of Atlanta; Scotty Bailey of Atlanta; Jackie Bennett of White Hall AR; and David Keeling of Texarkana TX. Granddaughters: Penny Cummings and husband Brad of St. Charles AR; Carolyn Shoemaker and husband Frank of Lubbock, Texas; Angela Lee and husband Buddy of Little Rock; Becky Childs and husband Ronald of Texarkana; Marry Harris and husband Jerry of Sheridan AR; Patty Dooley and husband Walter of Bloomburg; and Kathleen Adams and husband Jo of Vivian LA. A son in law: Bill Bailey of Atlanta; and daughter in law Leona Keeling of Linden; great granddaughters: Alison Grace Longacre; and Asia Clare Koons of Savannah GA; and a special friend Virginia Griffin of Bloomburg.

He was preceded in death by his wife Emogene Tuberville Chase, his parents; stepdaughters: Judy Longacre; Billy Bailey; Sue Bennett and husband Virgle; and stepson Marvin David Keeling Sr. One sister: Ernestine Baker and one brother Danny Chase. Grandsons: Bobby Bailey; and William Bennet; and a great granddaughter Jennifer Adams.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Atlanta Senior Center. Services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at First Baptist Church of Bloomburg. Burial will be at Pine Crest Cemetery, Atlanta, TX, under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service, with George Thomas officiating. Visitation was from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday, November 26, 2019, at Hanner Funeral Service.
