CHARLES ANDERSON YATES

November 28, 1939 – April 4, 2026

Charles Anderson Yates, age 86, of Atlanta, Texas, was born November 28, 1939 to Artie and Tressie Tims Yates.

Saturday, April 4, 2026, within site of his childhood home, he took his final flight to his eternal home.

He is survived by his wife, Gail, whom he married on Easter weekend, April 16, 1960. Also surviving are his son, David Charles Yates and wife Terri of Atlanta, grandson Jeffery Ross Yates and wife Yabreka of Texarkana; two great grandsons, Jordan and Solomon; twin brothers Ronald G. and wife Donna of Atlanta and Ronnie L. and wife Suzonne of Tyler; sisters in law Brenda Yates and Patricia Smith, and a number of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Each will remember Charles in unique ways.

He loved boating, camping, and especially flying, but NOT golf. He encouraged and mentored a number of young men in choosing a career.

Charles retired in 2000 from his position of Regional Sales Manager for U.N.X., Inc., a chemical manufacturer of North Carolina. He was recognized as an expert in time management and employee morale.

He was a member of various professional, political and civic organizations including Rotary and AOPA. He was a licensed pilot, holding private, commercial and instrument ratings.

Charles served on active military duty with the U.S. Army’s Texas National Guard at Fort Polk, Louisiana in the early 1960’s.

After retiring in 2000, he spent his time with his “big boy toys” – bulldozers, backhoes and tractors. He joined Gail in raising prize winning registered Texas Longhorns.

Charles was a member of Bethsaida “Y” Baptist Church, remembering vividly his baptism in Jake Holland’s pond.

He is preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, James. Also preceding him is Jerry Lee Yates, also his brother.

An old-fashioned gentleman, patient and kind, but with a core of steel, Charles left us last Saturday. He is already sorely missed but he is expecting us. Pap-Pap’s gone home.

Funeral services will be, 2:00 pm, Wednesday, April 8, 2026 in the Hanner Funeral Service Chapel, with Jeff Yates and Paul Burkhalter officiating.

Visitation will be 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, before the service.

Interment will be in Bethsaida “Y” cemetery. Guest registry is available at www.hannerfuneralservice.
