Barbara Snelgrove Coats

Barbara Snelgrove Coats, age 84, of Queen City, Texas, went to be with the Lord Saturday, May 16, 2026, in a Texas City, Texas, assisted living facility. Barbara was born July 22, 1941, in Bivins, Texas, to Haskell W. and Ruth Nix Snelgrove. She retired from First National Bank; and was a member of Calvary Tabernacle. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, playing dominoes and diamond painting.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, James Melvin Coats; son, Steven Coats; granddaughter, Stephanie Elizabeth Garza; brothers, halfsister and by her parents.

She is survived by her children, James Earl Coats and wife Nelda of Price, Utah, Betty Florence and husband Ed of Ravanna, Mandie Toland and husband Joe of Galveston; grandchildren, Joe Oliver and wife Julie, Richard Oliver and wife Amber, Jamie Dalrymple and husband Joe, Leanne Dempsey and husband Jonathan, Kayc Noyes, Mackenzie Coats, Tucker Coats; and a number of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren; a number of “adopted” children and other relatives and a host of friends. Visitation will be Friday, May 22, 2026, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Hanner Funeral Service.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Calvary Tabernacle, under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service, with Bro. Billy Dupree officiating. Interment will be in Courtland Cemetery. Those wishing to memorialize Barbara may make donations to Calvary Tabernacle, Queen City Alumni Association or pay it forward to someone in need.
