QCISD gearing up for May election
Queen City Independent School District will be the only one amongst cities and schools to hold a May 2 election.
On the ballot for QCISD Board of Directors are Place 4, currently held by Phillip Hamilton, and Place 5, currently held by Dusty Wiley.
Christopher Ryan Green and Trey Douglas Rose will vie for the Place 4 position, as Hamilton is not running for re-election.
Wiley is unopposed for the election.
Early voting in the Queen City ISD election will be held at the Queen City ISD Administration building and will begin Monday, April 20, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and will continue from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, through Friday, April 24, and Monday, April 27, through Tuesday, April 28. No early voting will be held on Tuesday, April 21, as it is a national holiday.
The regular election voting will be held from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday, May 2, at the Queen City Administration building, located at 1015 Houston Street, Queen City.
For Atlanta City Council, three positions were up for election, with the three incumbents unopposed.
Marshal Brooks will serve another term as mayor of Atlanta, Chris Collins will serve as councilman for District 1, and Kevin Sherman will continue to serve another term as an atlarge councilmember.
Atlanta Independent School District will welcome one new face to the board at the end of board member Lauren Giesler’s term. Lanny Giesler will join the board, and incumbents Randal Thomason and Keri Richardson will serve another term as board members.
Bloomburg City Council will remain unchanged as the three candidates filing for election were unopposed. Mayor Delores Simmons and council members Candie Harris and Kenneth Patterson will serve the city for another term. Patterson was appointed to the council position to fill a vacancy and file to keep the position.
Two positions for Bloomburg Independent School District were up for election. With no other candidates filing, board members Barbara Pond and John Hooker will continue to serve on the school board.
The city council of Queen City had two positions in the running for Place 1 and Place 2. Councilman Gary “Buddy” Dodd, Place 1, and W.L. “Buddy” Quarles, Place 2, filed to maintain their positions on the council and were unopposed.
