Atlanta sweeps Rabbs Relays
Atlanta’s track program swept the annual Runnin’ Rabbs/Atlanta Lions Club/ Gordon Pynes Relays this past weekend.
It was a beautiful day for a track meet and each team represented left it all on the track.
Two meet records were also broken as Boone Hodges from Paul Pewitt beat the 2012 pole vault record of 16 feet, 2 inches with a mark of 16 feet, 3 inches and Liberty- Eylau’s 4x200m girls’ relay team beat the record of 1:42.15 set in 1997 with a blazing 1:41.34. Varsity Girls The varsity girls’ battle was one for the ages. Atlanta edged out rival L-E, who was a heavy favorite to win the event, 172 to 169.
Every point was needed for the Lady Rabbs to defend their title.
In the 800m Ella Stewart, Lucy Ransom and Jaliyah Gordon placed 1-2-3 with times of 2:34.93, 2:35.31 and 2:38.29 respectively, in the 1600m run Stewart and Ransom placed 1-2 with times of 5:53.63 and 6:04.92 respectively, in the 3200m run Stewart and Ransom placed 1-2 with times of 12:24.52 and 12:50.71 respectively and in the 100m hurdles Maggee Winters and Ryleigh Thompson placed 1-2 at 16.98 and 17.27 respectively.
In discus Alexis Adcock placed third at 88 feet even and in pole vault Winters placed second at 8 feet even and Gracie Lawrence placed third at 7 feet even.
The relay teams all finished in second place. The 4x100m relay team of Sasha Ramirez, Shamijala Gilliam, Markavia Garner and Gracie McWilliams finished with a time of 48.52, the 4x200m relay team of the same lineup finished at 1:43.30 and the 4x400m relay team of Ke’Mauri Johnson, Gilliam, Garner and McWilliams finished at 4:06.62.
For QC, Kaylin Griffin placed first in pole vault at 8 feet, 6 inches.
Atlanta’s JV girls outdistanced Mt. Pleasant 169 to 151.
Varsity Boys
The varsity boys edged Liberty-Eylau 110 to 101 for the title.
Brayden Thompson placed third in the 100m dash at 11.60, CJ Whaley placed third in the 200m dash at 23.26 and Dayton Havard placed third in the 300m hurdles at 40.82.
Ian Bard placed third in the 800m run at 2:03.37, second in the 1600m run at 4:48.45 and second in the 3200m run at 10:25.77.
The 4x100m relay team placed sixth at 44.50, the 4x200m relay team of Kayden Linwood, Omariea Kinney, Dre Simmons and Havard placed first at 1:29.46 and the 4x400m relay team of Whaley, Linwood, Simmons and Havard placed second at 3:21.16.
Whaley placed second in high jump at 5 feet, 10 inches and Kam Williams placed first at 46 feet even in shot.
For Queen City, Daketrick Smith placed first in the 200m dash at 22.98, David Jackson placed second in shot with a heave of 44 feet, 4 inches and Tavon Andrews placed second at 43 feet, 1/2 inch in triple jump.
Atlanta’s JV boys’ team destroyed the field with 208 points on the day. Mt. Pleasant was second with 158.
Queen City’s David Jackson and Thomas Guest qualified for State at the Region 3,Division 3 Boys’Powerlifting Meet last week.Jackson placed second in the SHW weight class with a total of 1,650 pounds lifted and Guest placed second in the 132-pound weight class with a total of 945 pounds lifted.
