A Call to Sow: The Kildare Seed Sowing Soirée

In Cass County, some of the most meaningful things in life begin with something small. A seed. A memory.

A story passed from one generation to another. That spirit is exactly what inspired the upcoming Kildare Seed Sowing Soirée, a community gathering that invites residents from across Cass County and surrounding areas to come together, put seeds in the soil, and plant something that will grow for years to come. The event will take place at the Kildare Community Garden, where neighbors, gardeners, families, and friends are invited to help shape a living space built by the community itself. But this gathering is about more than planting vegetables. It is about planting heritage, memory, and legacy.

We are inviting residents to bring something meaningful from their own gardens or family traditions.

This could include: Seeds saved from your own garden A graft or cutting from a family tree Native plants or fruit trees Shade trees such as dogwoods or redbuds Garden tools to share with the community Children’s garden books or agricultural books Favorite family recipes connected to garden harvests Each contribution becomes part of the story of the garden. Participants will also have the opportunity to share their Seed Story, the story behind the plant, the recipe, or the tradition they are bringing. These stories help preserve the agricultural and cultural heritage of Cass County and ensure that the knowledge of one generation is passed on to the next. The Kildare Garden will serve as a starting point for something larger. As seeds take root here, the vision is to inspire more community gardens throughout Cass County, each shaped by the people who care for them.

We are also welcoming volunteers from every background, including: Master Gardeners Junior Master Gardeners 4-H members Families and youth groups Local farmers and homesteaders Anyone simply willing to lend a helping hand Whether you have decades of gardening experience or have never planted a seed before, you are welcome.

Community gardens have always been places where people gather, learn from one another, and grow not only food but friendships. In times past, neighbors shared seeds across fences and swapped recipes at kitchen tables. The Seed Sowing Soirée is simply bringing that tradition back to life.

The invitation is simple: Come as you are. Bring a seed, a plant, a tool, a book, a recipe, or simply your willingness to help. Together we will plant something that belongs to all of us.

Where seeds, stories, and community take root in Cass County. The Kildare Seed Sowing Soirée will take place Friday, March 27, 2026, at the Kildare Community Garden in Kildare, Texas. Activities will begin at 6:00 p.m., and neighbors from across Cass County and surrounding communities are warmly invited to attend. Whether you bring a seed, a story, a tool, or simply your helping hands, this evening will be about planting more than a garden, it will be about planting the roots of community for generations to come.
