Cass County election results

Cass County will welcome two new faces Jan. 1, 2027, following the March 3 Primary Election.

Courtney Allen will be taking the office of Cass County treasurer, winning a close race against incumbent Melissa Shores.

Steven Terry will hold the position of Precinct 4 commissioner after defeating two other candidates for the position.

All candidates in the Primary Election ran as Republican, therefore they will not face off in the General Election in November.

Following the election, Allen expressed gratitude to the voters of Cass County.

“I am truly honored and grateful for your trust and support,” she said. “I look forward to serving the citizens of Cass County with integrity, transparency, and dedication.”

Allen’s experience includes 10 years in banking, before becoming a business owner. In announcing her candidacy, she said she gained valuable experience in managing finances, gained knowledge in budgeting, and by owning a business she learned the importance of accountability and transparency.

Commitment to the youth and the community is shown by her positions as current treasurer of the Atlanta Boys Baseball Association and president of the Queen City Ag Booster Club, as well as a voting member in the athletics booster club and current umpire for Diamond Youth Baseball.

In an announcement of her candidacy, Allen said, “I understand the needs and aspirations of our county, and I am dedicated to ensuring financial stability and growth for all.”

Goals she has set for her role as treasurer are to prioritize transparency, fiscal responsibility, and to maintain an open-door policy for community engagement.

“Thank you, again, for believing in me. I’m ready to get to work for you,” Allen said.

Steven Terry went up against two other candidates for the position of Precinct 4 commissioner, and came out on top in the March 3 primary election.

“I’m truly honored and grateful for your support in electing me as your commissioner,” Terry said. “I am humbled by your support, your encouragement, and the countless conversations that shaped this campaign.”

Terry said his high school agriculture classes taught by George Whatley at McLeod High School provided him with, not only a wide range of skills, but knowing the value of hard work and instilled a deep appreciation for serving his community. Terry is a 2000 graduate of MHS.

During the last 25 years, Terry said he has been involved in many business ventures in and around Cass County, including serving as part owner of Terry Enterprises, working as a general contractor for new home construction and remodeling, and participating in land and timber investments, as well as being involved in the cattle business. He noted that his company has contracted with the Texas Department of Transportation to perform right-of-way maintenance, tree trimming and tree removal in multiple counties across the state.

Experience operating heavy machinery and equipment has given him a strong understanding of equipment costs and the critical need for safety when operating machinery, he said. Throughout this time, he learned how to manage crews, prioritize safety, meet deadlines, and work efficiently within a budget.

“These years of hands-on experience have prepared me to serve the citizens of Precinct 4 as your commissioner. I understand the daily needs of our county roads, the importance of proper maintenance, and the responsibility that comes with managing taxpayer dollars,” Terry said.

“I am committed to using my skills and experience to make informed decisions, respond quickly to community concerns, and work hard alongside our crews to ensure that your tax dollars are used for the benefit of Precinct 4.”

“I look forward to serving the people of Precinct 4,” he said.
