Queen City students participate in Fishing Derby
Students from all three Queen City ISD campuses recently participated in the annual Fishing Derby held at Spring Lake Park.
This special event, hosted by Texarkana’s Parks and Recreation Department, continues to be a highlight for students and staff each year.
Over the course of the two-day event, nearly 280 students from area schools had the opportunity to cast a line, pull in a fish, and have the opportunity to enjoy a morning outdoors. Each student was paired with an adult partner from local law enforcement agencies and fire departments, and created meaningful one-on-one moments and memories that will last long after the sun sets on the event.
The fish caught by the students were cleaned and sent home with students for families to enjoy for dinner.
In addition to fishing, students took part in carnival- style games, jump houses, and other activities throughout the park. A lunch of grilled hotdogs was served for lunch and the kids ended the day with a stop for ice cream on the way back to school.
The Fishing Derby was made possible by the Spring Lake Park staff, with the support of community partners like the Texarkana Texas Police Department, Texarkana Texas Fire Department, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and other local volunteers. The Texarkana Parks and Recreation Department hosts the event each year.
The derby is centered on friendship, encouragement, and the simple joy of casting a line and leaving worries behind for a while.
