Linden VFD to receive new truck
Linden Volunteer Fire Department Chief Chris Hill told city council members during the Feb. 9 meeting that the department’s new truck has been built and it should be in at the end of February or first of March.
Payments on the truck will run about $2,300 monthly and Hill said the department still needs support from the community.
He said the department currently has $60,000 in the bank, but with the new truck note that number will go down.
“We need as much help as we can get,” he told the council and guests present.
The department is in need of a tanker truck, Hill said.
“We had a structure fire not too long ago and we ran out of water and had to wait 15 minutes for a tanker from another department to get there,” he said. “When you’re dealing with a structure fire, 15 minutes is a long time.”
During a recent election, voters cast ballots against the LVFD becoming part of the Cass County Emergency Services District, which left the department with funding limited to $25,000 from the city and $15,000 from the county.
The LVFD relies heavily on donations to keep equipment safe, updated and ready to respond.
Anyone wishing to do so, may make donations to the LVFD account at Texana Bank in Linden.
