Two local members of the Cass County Historical Commission will be in attendance at the 2026 Real Places Conference April 8-10.

Commissioner’s approved to send the representatives during their Tuesday, Feb. 10, meeting.

Representing Cass County will be Liz Avis and Misty Golden.

The Real Places Conference is hosted by the Texas Historical Commission and brings together professionals and volunteers from diverse disciplines and organizations that work to make historic preservation happen in Texas.

Attendees to the event have the opportunity to learn skills from fundraising and grant writing to building maintenance and conservation.

The conference also has sessions to educate guests on how to use state and federal tax credits to assist with historical building rehab costs.

According to the website, the conference also allows guests to connect with over 100 Texas Historical Commission staff members and other partner organizations.

In other matters, the Commissioner’s Court: Approved a resolution supporting legislation to improve county road infrastructure and safety.

Approved the Cass County Investment Policy presented by Melissa Shores.

Approved registration with Texas Association of Counties (TAC) County Information Resources Agency (CIRA) for the 2026 Cybersecurity Training.

Tabled the consideration of office software conversion to LGS for the district attorney’s office.

Approved the Cass County Financial Policy.

Approved the auditor’s financial report and expenses.

Approved the consent agenda, consisting of minutes from the Jan. 28 meeting and the 2025 certificate of compliance of continuing education for Melissa Shores.
