QC ISD appoints Kevin Reaves at press conference
The Kevin Reaves era is officially underway at Queen City High School after the school board unanimously appointed him Executive Director of Athletics on Jan. 8.
QC ISD put together a press conference to introduce Coach Reaves to the students, staff, athletes and parents on Jan. 12.
Before Coach Reaves took the microphone, Queen City ISD Superintendent Dr. Casey Nichols shared his excitement.
“I am ecstatic that Coach Kevin Reaves has joined the QCISD family as the Executive Director of Athletics. Coach Reaves has an amazing ability to unite programs and develop student-athletes who consistently compete at the highest levels in Texas high school athletics,” said Nichols. “The hire of Coach Reaves signals an exciting new era for the Queen City Independent School District.”
Reaves wasn’t crazy about the spotlight but did layout the foundation of his program and its expectations in front of a packed house.
“I don’t treat kids like friends. I treat them like family. And with that comes love and understanding. We’re going to bring a lot of love to the table, but with love comes high expectations, fun and celebration and personal accountability,” Reaves said. “I’ll bring every bit of what love encompasses to the table. As I’ve told Doctor Nichols, I don’t believe in that term tough love. It doesn’t exist. Love is all encompassing. So, I’m going to give your kids the most love that I can in any direction that they need it.”
There is a renewed sense of excitement with this hire. Reaves has seen his share of success along his coaching journey.
He coached at Pleasant Grove when they won two state titles in three seasons and coached at Jefferson where the team went undefeated in the regular season in his first year with the program.
There is a constant belief among some coaches that strength and conditioning is at the center of building solid programs.
Coach Reaves has experience in just that field and hopes that it will make a huge impact throughout the QC athletic department.
The excerpt written on the QC ISD Facebook page outlined just how exciting the night was for those in attendance.
It was standing room only at Eugene Sloan Memorial Gymnasium as Bulldogs poured in to officially welcome Kevin Reaves as the new Executive Director of Athletics and newest member of the Bulldog Family.
QCISD Superintendent Dr. Casey Nichols opened the evening by greeting the packed house and highlighting Coach Reaves’ extensive accomplishments and leadership journey before introducing him to the crowd.
As Coach Reaves stepped to the microphone, the buzzing fell silent, and the audience leaned in as he shared his beliefs, coaching philosophies, and a firm commitment to a growth mindset in every aspect of life. Drawing on his time serving in the U.S. Navy, Coach Reaves delivered a powerful message, declaring he was ready to “hoist the anchor, set the ship right, and storm every beach life lays in front of him,” while inviting the entire Bulldog community to join him on that journey.
The night marked more than an introduction—it signaled the beginning of a bold, united path forward for Queen City Independent School District.
With the excitement brimming across the ISD, Queen City is ready to make successful steps into a whole new era.
