M.L.K. celebration planned Jan. 17
On Jan. 17, 2026, at 2 p.m., join the Linden Heritage Foundation in the Courtroom of the historic Cass County Courthouse, in Downtown Linden, 100 E. Houston Street, for a special event during the week of the celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
History has lessons to teach us if we will only read or listen. This is particularly true of the accomplishments of people of color, especially those hailing from the Linden area. However, in some communities there is little evidence or knowledge of these achievements.
A Dean, a Coach and a Doctor
Darrell Barrett, a 1973 L-K High Graduate, and active member of the Linden Community, will bring to light the accomplishments of three (3) former Lindenites, the late Dr. Arcelia M. Johnson-Fannin, Valedictorian - Fairview High School Class of 1964, Founding Dean of Pharmacy at two (2) Schools of Pharmacy - Hampton University, Hampton, Virginia and the University of the Incarnate Word, San Antonio, Texas and William “Bill” Harper, former L-K Coach and former Marshall Mavericks and Nacogdoches Dragons Athletic Director & Head Football Coach.
Also showcased will be the ongoing achievements of James A. Northcutt, M.D., Valedictorian - Fairview High School Class of 1963.
In addition, an update will be provided on the placement in the Linden City Park of Historic Signage.
Following the program, the Linden Heritage Foundation will have its Annual Membership Meeting. The Agenda for the Membership Meeting includes the election of Linden Heritage Foundation Directors.
A reception with refreshments will follow. For further information contact: Sam Higdon, samlhigdon@ icloud.com (225) 603-8536
