No room for boom
We are approaching the time of year where fireworks are sent blazing into the sky and then illuminating the scene in vibrant colors.
This is one of only two times a year, fireworks are allowed to be sold in Cass County. The other time is near the July 4th holiday.
While fireworks can be mesmerizing to look at, there is also a safety measure set in place.
Dry weather and high winds can force officials to put out bans on firework usage due to fire hazards.
There are also public safety risks (injuries), severe noise pollution affecting people and pets, negative environmental impact (air/water quality), and the fact that loud noises and flashes can trigger PTSD in veterans.
Cities across the nation have banned firework usage inside city limits for numerous reasons.
In Cass County, Linden is one of those cities where there is no room for boom.
The Linden Police Department reminded its citizens and visitors of City Ordinance 10.04.030 – Fireworks Prohibited on Facebook recently.
This ordinance prohibits the discharge of fireworks anywhere within the city limits of Linden, Texas.
The reminder went on to say, “this regulation helps keep our community safe by reducing the risk of fires, injuries, property damage and noise pollution. Excessive noise can be especially disruptive to families, pets, veterans, seniors and others sensitive to loud sounds.”
Violations of this ordinance are punishable by citation.
Linden Police officers respond to calls for service re- garding fireworks and will enforce this ordinance as part of their daily duties. Officers are often dispatched to “shots fired” calls when fireworks are mistaken for gunfire, which places both officers and residents on high alert for potential threats.
The reminder ends with, “thank you for your cooperation in helping keep Linden a safe, peaceful and respectful place for everyone.”
From wildlife to indoor animals and from children to seniors, be aware of the surroundings in which some of these listed will be in.
If you’re unsure about the law in certain cities, contact local law enforcement to ask and make sure.
