Stand Your Ground
There are scriptures in the Bible where God tells us what kind of ground we are standing on, and why it matters. There is level ground that is stable, shaky ground that is not stable, slippery ground that is risky, rocky ground that can be dangerous, and much more.
In 2 Samuel 23:11-12; Shammah, one of David’s mighty men, stood in the middle of a piece of ground full of lentils, defended it, and defeated the Philistines. And the LORD brought a great victory! Because Shammah stood his ground, the LORD fought for him.
We have the right to defend ourselves, and our family from all the attacks of the enemy, to stand our ground fully trusting in God!
Deuteronomy 28:7; The LORD shall cause your enemies that rise up against you to be smitten before your face, they shall come out against you, one way, and flee before you seven ways.
Matthew 12:29; Or else how can one enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, Except he first bind the strongman? And then he will spoil his house.
Defend Your territory, defend your calling, defend your pea patch, stand your ground!
In Matthew 13:1-23, Jesus gives the parable of the sower who sowed seed into four different types of ground. These grounds represent the condition of one’s heart. One was the wayside, but the birds came and ate them up, because there was no understanding of the Word, and so the enemy was able to steal it from them. Another was stoney places, but there wasn’t much soil to plant them, so they didn’t take root, only enduring for a while, others among thorns, but the thorns, the worries of this life, choked the Word, and no fruit came forth, and finally, some fell into good ground, where the soil was ready to receive seed, and it brought forth much fruit.
Proverbs 4:23; Watch over your heart with all diligence. For from it flow the springs of life.
This lets us know that it does matter what type of ground our heart is.
It also matters what type of ground we build on, what is our foundation sitting on.
Jesus said in Matthew 7:24-27; that there are two foundations, one on sand, one on rock, and the foundation we are building on depends on if we are hearers of the Word only, or also doer’s of the Word. Hearers only are building on sand, and won’t be able to survive when the storms come. Those who are hearers and doers, are building on a rock, a firm foundation, stable ground, and will survive every storm, because that rock is Christ!
Psalm 18:2; The LORD is my rock and fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my strength, in whom I will trust, my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my stronghold. V. 3, I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised, so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
Children of God, Stand your ground, for the LORD is with you.
