Enlisted on Mar 27, 1863 in Houston City, Georgia. Was medically discharged on Aug 15, 1863 at Chattanooga, Tennessee, due to a serious heart condition.
Gay, John Henry. First Corporal, Company I, 41st Georgia Infantry, CSA Enlisted on Mar 4, 1862 in Franklin, Georgia. Wounded in battle at Perryville, Ky. Captured in the Battle of Champion Hill, MS, during the defense of Vicksburg. Sent to Memphis, Tn, then on to Camp Morton, In. Paroled (Exchanged) at Fort Delaware, De. On Jul 3, 1863. Returned to his unit, and fought in the series of battles from Missionary Ridge, Tn. to Dalton, Ga. Wounded in the head at Rocky Face, Ga, in May of 1864. He was taken home, but never recovered from the injury - died in May, 1866.

He was severely wounded in the hip and shoulder at Burkettsville, Maryland in the Battle of Antietam - Crompton’s Gap), on Sep 14, 1862. He was left on the field of battle for Union medics. On Oct 23, 1862, he was returned to Confederate forces and remained in the Chimborazo Hospital #4 in Richmond, Virginia. He was medically retired on May 14, 1864.

Imprisoned at Louisville, Ky Military Prison and Camp Morton, In. Released on May 18, 1865 after the surrender.
