It´s beginnig to look a lot like Christmas
Several entities contributed to Atlanta’s holiday decoration and atmosphere experience.
First, the Atlanta City Development Corporation is doing its share as detailed in this Christmas lighting story.
But also contributing are the local veterans who have created a new memorial pod in Veterans Plaza for those who served in the Middle East Wars.
Another contribution will be the manger scene of Jesus Christ’s birth made by Nancy Coe of the 903 Artisans group which will go up after Thanksgiving.
The library and the depot have their roofs outlined with strings of light. And coming new this season will the ACDC’s funded airplane display on the side of the depot which will honor Bessie Coleman, the first African American woman to hold a pilot’s license.
Many downtown stores this season are going to major efforts to decorate. Their lighting is outstanding. Their store windows and interiors deserve a long look of appreciation. Santa Claus may make an appearance in some of them.
The huge lighted tree on the railroad depot grounds with its bulbous white fruit has been expanded this season.
The town’s Christmas Parade during the first week of December each year is of lasting impact. More than, or nearing, a thousand people may attend and remember the season.
Several organizations or groups may use the Wood Park or the West Main Street pocket park which are maintained by the City of Atlanta and make it a comfortable place to visit, relax and socialize.
In one decoration deletion, the town will no longer fund the lighting of the roof lines of downtown buildings. Some of these lines are now decades old and on the roofs of private owners and will no longer be maintained.
The town has a palpable spirit of the holidays, especially at Christmas. “Vibrancy” is the term being used by some local leaders.
