This Day
Sometimes when you read the Bible even the simplest of words seem to jump off the page.
You may not think about them the first few times you read over them because it’s just part of the written verse.
It’s part of the message, it’s part of the prophecy, it’s part of the scriptures.
Just like the use of the words “this day”. There are times in the Bible where you see the words “this day”. It simply means today.
This day could be a few minutes after a statement has been made or later on in the day, but before tomorrow. Before sundown or sunup, it was going to happen.
If God or people led by the Holy Spirit said, “this day” then best believe it was going to happen that same day.
When God says something, he means it and it will be delivered without fail. It will go forth!
D-Day
In the Bible there was a D-Day as well and the D stood for David.
In 1 Samuel Chapter 17, we read where the Israelites and Philistines are pitted against one another near the Valley of Elah.
The Philistines were sworn enemies of the Israelites who looked to finally get the upper hand against the chosen people of God.
A chance to wipe out the nation God had his hand over! To wipe out past years and future years of promises and blessings.
And the Philistines felt overly confident because they had a secret weapon. Goliath of Gath.
Goliath taunted and mocked Israel for 40 days but in doing so he was also mocking God.
That’s a showing of great patience on the Philistine side to wait 40 days to attack but they knew they had Israel backed into a corner of fear.
Then David arrived on the scene and he was angered by the giant’s actions.
David asked, “who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?”
David grew tired of the mocking and taunting and enquired of King Saul that he may go forth and slay the giant.
God had a plan and it involved the future king of Israel. And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth and had a healthy and fair countenance.
And the Philistine said unto David, “Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves?” And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
And the Philistine said to David, “come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air and to the beasts of the field.”
Then said David to the Philistine, “thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.”
“This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.”
And it was on that day that, shortly after he said it, that David killed Goliath and cut off his head.
Don’t let satan back you into a corner of fear! This day be a David! And this day you will prevail in the Name of the Lord!
You may have people in your life talking about you and hurling insults at you to your face or behind your back but God will not let His anointed be put down in that manner and He will take action against those who speak out against His chosen.
God is our victory! This day you can have victory! Over your giants, over your sicknesses, over your struggles, over the enemy!
Jesus died on the cross so you could have victory this day! Each day is a “this day”!
Jesus
After Jesus was born angels appeared to shepherds keeping watch over their flocks and they were afraid but the angel said unto them, “Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord.”
God came to Earth as Jesus, in man’s flesh! He stepped down into darkness as a light to all people! He dwelt among the people as a human being!
God is with us this day! He said He would never leave us or forsake us! He is here this day!
Jesus, after being tempted by satan, eventually made His way to a synagogue in Nazareth where He read from the Book of Isaiah.
Isaiah prophesied more about Jesus than any other prophet. His prophesies about Jesus are remarkably detailed and cover various aspects of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection.
And He found the place in the Book of Isaiah where it said, “the Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised and to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”
Afterwards He said to them, “this day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.”
Jesus is the Word made flesh! He is the fulfillment! This day is the scripture fulfilled to us!
We can see it unfolding this day! When Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He told them to say, “Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread.
God is our provider! God will give you what you need this day! Be it physical, be it natural, be it emotional, be it spiritual. He can give it to you this day!
This day you can get what you need from the Lord our God!
Joshua
In chapter 24 of Joshua, the Lord speaks through Joshua to the elders, judges and officers and reminds them of what He had done to get them to that point. A reminder!
And Joshua told the people, “Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood and in Egypt; and serve ye the Lord. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
This day you have a choice! This day you can be saved! This day salvation can come to your house! This day choose the Lord and live!
And the Lord said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.
If He was with Joshua and Moses, He is with you and I! Do you know what you can have this day? Victory, peace, freedom, joy, salvation, healing, blessings, answers, things eternal.
Ask what you would of the Lord this day! This day you can have it!
This Day
This day He can deliver you up! This day he can give you victory over falsities and slander the devil brings against you! This day he can have your enemies put down!
What did Jesus tell Zaccheus? “This day is salvation come to this house!”
What did God tell Jeremiah? “See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.”
This day, tear down strongholds! Take your stand against the devil this day!
What does God tell His children? “And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the Lord your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, blessings shall surely come.”
Do you want your blessings this day? This day has the Lord made! This day has been set aside for you! This day the Lord is going to work things out in your life!
Keep the faith this day! Don’t let satan steal what is yours this day! Hold onto it!
Go in the fear of the Lord and see what He will do for you this day!
