Rabbits hop past rival Liberty-Eylau 33-19
Atlanta extended its winning streak to seven games after topping rival Liberty-Eylau 33-19 last week.
The Rabbs started off the scoring with a 13-yard touchdown run by Jayden Riley. CJ Whaley hit the point after and the Rabbs were up 7-0 with 9:36 left on the clock in the first quarter.
Atlanta’s defense turned up the heat on the Leopards and facing a long fourth down, the snapper put the ball over the head of the punter and Atlanta recovered the ball at the 1-yard line.
Freshman quarterback Brayden Thompson took the ball in on a QB keeper for the Rabbs’ next score. Whaley hit the PAT and the Rabbits had a solid 14-0 lead with 8:15 left in the opening quarter.
Atlanta scored again on a 4-yard strike from Thompson to Liam McKinney. Whaley connected again on the PAT and the Rabbs were up 21-0 with 6:21 left in the first quarter.
L-E scored once before halftime and with the added PAT Atlanta was up 21-7.
With just under eight minutes to go in the third frame, L-E scored again but the PAT was blocked and scooped up by Whaley who went the distance and scored two points.
That brought the score to 23-13. Early in the fourth quarter the Leopards scored another TD but missed the 2-point try keeping the score at 23-19.
Whaley connected on a nice 36-yard field goal later in the fourth stanza to push the score to 26-19.
The Rabbit defense stood tall for the final six minutes of the game and kept L-E out of the endzone.
Atlanta iced the game under the 2-minute mark when Riley bolted into the endzone on a 21-yard TD carry on third down.
Whaley hit the PAT and increased the score to 3319.
Thompson passed for 61 yards and a touchdown and also rushed for a TD, Riley added 62 yards and two scores on the ground, Marshawn Woodberry put up 53 rushing yards, Kayden Linwood posted 24 yards receiving and Liam McKinney had the only receiving TD.
Atlanta (7-1, 4-0) travels to Tatum this Friday night for a matchup with the Eagles. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
