Edith Marie Kendrick Barfoot

January 26, 1943 - September 16, 2025

Edith Marie Kendrick Barfoot was born January 26, 1943 at her family home in Vivian, Louisiana, the seventh of Denson Elbert and Edith Mae Kendrick’s nine children. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior on September 16, 2025 at the age of 82.

Having been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, she was told to expect six months. As a believer, to live was Christ, to die was gain. Her family is grateful for the additional three months we got to spend with her.

Marie lived a full life with a healthy mix of business and pleasure. Having been a homemaker early in life, she often also balanced multiple jobs when she was younger to support her family. Marie came to have a strong work ethic and knew how to get the most out of each day.

After training in the field of floral design, she opened her own florist in Atlanta which continued to grow into a full service interior decorating business in Texarkana. In addition to sharing her gifts of service and hospitality, throughout the years she enjoyed camping, fishing, spending time with friends, fishing, decorating for church functions, entertaining with family, and fishing. All while still working every week with an hour commute each way - which she claimed was when she did her best thinking.

After the loss of Jerry, her husband of 28 years in 2020 and the loss of her business due to a pinhole water leak after the big freeze thawed in 2021, retirement was discussed. At 78, she just wasn’t ready so she downsized instead, cutting her inventory and commute time by half. That extra time and closer proximity to her home on Caddo Lake afforded her more time to fish.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, devoted husband Jerry Barfoot, daughter Misty Lutton, sister Christine Kendrick Wynn and brothers Bobby Rachel Kendrick, Denson Elbert Jr, Ronnie, Jerry and Jimmy Dan Kendrick Left to cherish her memory are son Tony Campbell and wife Sherry of Queen City, Tx, daughter Dede Wells and husband Ray of Atlanta, Tx, and son Damon Donnell of Athens, Tx.

Her grandchildren, Reed Samuelson, Caitlyn Baker Arnold and husband Will, Shelby Campbell Buck and husband Ryan, Cody Campbell, Colton Lutton and River, Sedona and Vallie-Ruth Donnell.

Great grandchildren include Max, Jerry and Abilene Samuelson who affectionately called her Swamp Nana, “hard working man” LC with little sis Darcy Buck, and bonus great grandson TJ Arnold.

She is also survived by her sister Janet Williams, brother Donnie Kendrick, son-in-law Chuck Lutton, and numerous relatives, many holding a special place in her heart.

Marie’s life will be celebrated Saturday, September 27, 2025 at 10 a.m. at Gorsulowsky Funeral Home, 1107 S Pine, Vivian La 71082. Her ashes will be spread on Caddo Lake.
