TRAIL RUN 2025

The fourth annual Trail Grinder run benefiting research for a cure for Superficial Siderosis drew more than 60 runners to the trail head of Atlanta’s Sportsplex Park Saturday.

Superficial Siderosis is a rare neurological disease. The run raises awareness and is sponsored by Caffe Crema Special Coffee Shop in Atlanta and owners Greg and Tanya Beers.

The run is called a trail grinder event because it combines the idea of grinding of coffee with the hard work of running of a trail through the woods. Few benefit runs start from as picturesque a place as Atlanta’s Sportspex’s pond. The trail runners begin their 6.2-mile jog through the woods to complete one circuit of the trail. Runners choose to do either a 5K, 10K or 30K total distance.

Tanya Beers explains the event’s deeper purpose.

“Every year participation grows as more people find out about it,” Beers began. “This a great cause, and it helps locally because one of our family members who is an ex-military veteran suffers from this neurological disorder. Drawing attention to it and raising awareness is one way of driving the search for a cure.”

A non-profit Siderosis Alliance also exists with a purpose to improve the patient’s quality of life through education and support.

“Atlanta may not have mountains, but we have trails,’ Tanya said. “We are happy to sponsor and prepare a trail run for this good medical cause. We’ll do it again. We’ll do it bigger and better next time,” she concluded.
